The MC-30 ($55) is no longer in production. The Mc-36 is massive and costs $136

Then there is the cheap chinese knockoff for $10

What is a D200 user to do?

AFS,

Thanks for the info. I was worried when I first read the post, I am in the same boat needing a remote for my D200. I'll look for the MC-30 too. On the D200 It's too bad Nikon did away with the sweet IR remote setup used on the D70. I just bought a ML-L3 IR remote for my D70 and it is super, small, about the size of two quarters side by side, and resides in a little flat pouch that is attached to the camera neck strap.

Dunno where you heard that, but I got an mc-30 for mine, a month or so ago, and it works very nicely, IMO. The fancy ones are nice too, but if you're looking for a budget release, this one is a good one.

make a trip down to the big city and you can play with my d200 as much as you want. We even have a nice river here, between us and Windsor. ;-)

Tom: The MC-30 is an older product so it would not be on the website. The MC-36 replaces the MC-30.

***********************************************************

Maybe I am a grouchy old man but what the heck....Do they produce the MC-30 anymore?

The mc-36 is massive in size and peice...come on Nikon!

mine works the same as the camera shutter release. Push the button down partailly for focus then all the way to fire. There may be a "hold" mode, I'm not sure. I'll see if the instructions address this.

As I understand it, set the camera to B, press the shutter release once to open shutter; press again to close shutter. Any amount of time limited only by battery condition in the ML-3 or the camera........

I have NOT used one yet - can someone confirm this procedure??? Could be very useful for astrophotography. Thanks,

I think I paid about $24 with s/h. It's a cheap piece of @#$#$ but it will do the job. Just hope it doesn't fall apart before I use it a few dozen times.

I too wish they had made the d200 compatible with my d70 IR trigger. Those are sweet!

Bummer. Someone stole my idea. I keep n thinking it wouldn't take much to make a receiver to interface between D70 remote and D200 socket.

The posted item looks like a neat gadget. I bought one of the $10 knockoffs on Ebay. I hate the fact that the cord is oriented to go up instead of down.

A couple of suggestions about the knockoff. It's diameter was too large to insert into D200 comfortably so I carefully took a razor knife to it's outer diameter.

Take care to index it before pushing too hard to get it in.

The one weak point I would worry about is flexing of the cord at the connector end might end up in wire/pin joint failure. Might be an idea to loop the cord back at the connector and super-glue in place so no flex or strain occurs at the wire joint inside connector.

Nikon also makes an adapter so the MC12A/B could be used. BTW, I do believe the MC30 is still being made...I bought a new one at my local dealer for $61 (with some negotiating, asking was $84.50).

I sent an email out today and received ths back tonight.

I've both D200 and D70. It's a pity D200 does not come with a built-in IR receiver for remote trigger like the D70.

Wondering what Nikon's rationale is for omitting that.

Hi Yves,

Yes I can confirm the MC-20 works on a D200. It also works on my D2X. I found one for sale on E-Bay.
