"Tips and secrets of the 1D"

Not only the tonal quality is good. The ability retain contrast in the fine details are also excellent. In landscape shots, this can be clearly see in the far distance tree branches (less than 1 pixel wide) against the sky, the contrast is much better than on the 10D.
Hey guys, I thought it would be nice to have a thread where we
(newbies, there are lots of us here) could get some "tips and
secrets" of the 1D.

BTW, who here got their 1D within a month ago?
-Weii as a new owner of the 1D, I am stunned by the image quality
at least in Raw mode anyway. Superb detail and great tonal range. I
am very glad I bought this camera. I may get another to go with it
if I can find one.-

Why can't you just release the shutter button to pause focus?

Bob

Got my 1D last night. I love it!!!!!
Considering that most sports shooters will want to auto-focus
constantly and only stop the auto-focus rarely, it makes sense to
me that the easiest button to press (the shutter button) should
start the focus, and the more awkward button (the * button) should
be used to pause it.
Set CF4 to 1 so that you press * to AF, and release to stop AF.
Half-pressing the shutter locks the exposure. Works great with
AI-Servo.

Give it a week, and you may never shoot any other way.

Just rec'd my 1D a couple of days ago and went to a party at a water park and shot a couple of hundred shots. I set my CF4 to 1 and what a difference it makes especially in AI-Servo mode. I shot some action shots in high speed 8fps and WOW!! My keeper rate was over 90%...quite a change from my 300D. CF4 does require getting used to since I sometimes forgot to press the * and wondered why the camera wasn't focusing. Thanks for the tip!

I got mine last month too, upgraded from 10D, i'm sooooooo glad i did the upgrade, so much better in so many ways with so little time to enjoy it.

I'm now officially looking for a second 1D body.

for CF, i found http://www.siphoto.com is very useful, especially if you shoot sports.

I use PF-21 all the time in churches during ceremonies and I have never had a problem.
PF-21 is the Personal Function that quiets the shutter.

Don't use it. It causes banding.

I want to be able to charge $1,000 for my signature on a print. Not to actually charge that much, just to be able to do it.

It will re-focus when you press the shutter to actually take the shot.

How do you FEL in that mode? If you put the 550EX on it and want to
FEL so you can recompose, how is it possible if the * is the focus
button

Thanks
