Hello,

I am just about to buy my G5. However since it is a 35mm camera, I decided to but the wide angle lens as well. and the telephoto lens too.
I was wondering which wide/telephoto brand to buy.

Does anybody have an opinion on Digital Optics lenses? Beech seems to be offering them for a good price of $99 each for telephoto 2x and wide .45 :

or should I go along with Canon's WC-DC58 and TC-DC58 lenses and play it safe?

Shishir.

what is the general consensus on what adapters and lenses are best for the G5?

i was going to purchase the Lensmate adapter and Tiffen lenses (wide and tele) available from the Lensmate website. However, are the Canon lenses and adapter superior?

Avoid them like the plague and stick with canon and Olympus for converter lenses to be on the safe side.. There apparently is a good Tiffen Pro WA one but I don't know much about that .

Please ignore the Typos, I'm the world's worst Typist

I've had the wide converter for a while now and have been very happy. The sand dune shots in the gallery: http://www.pbase.com/mooses/death_valley were taken mostly with the wide angle this past weekend. It gets my thumbs up.

There are a few out there who would like a really quailfied answer to the question. I have made enquiries on this forum about Bower lenses and adapters being advertised on ebay. I have not had a response about them yet. The company that sells them has 46mm adapter tube that fits the Canon lens closely and when on the camera with filters it should not obstruct the AF and flash as much as bigger diameter adapters. Not having much success with my enquiries I have bought a Bower wide angle .38x and a Kenko 3x tele, they are expected any day now and I will post what I think of them. I also bought on ebay an adapter including a UV filter and there is even a nice lens cap included, it was at 52mm diameter as this suits the lenses I have bought. I am in Canada and can you believe the adapter came from Hong Kong in just 4 days, the product was very well made and you can get them in Grey or Black to suit G3 or G5.

The cost of Canon lenses was just too much for me and the fact that they are huge 58mm in diameter at the adapter and about 72mm at the lens told me that there will be cut off of the AF beam and they obstruct the on camera flash so you will need an EX series flash for best results with the Canon lenses. Now I know there are those that say you get what you pay for but there are cases where alternate makes will fill the bill. It depends on how critical you are ( and we have some real critical posts here) but their needs may require the best results possible so they feel more comfortable with Canon.
Will post when I have tested my lenses!!

Regards, Brian Wilson

I'll be looking forward to your review. Are these your first lenses or do you have some to compare them against?

Do you mind telling me the name of the seller on ebay? I'd like to see some of the prices and compare.

Thanks.

I went with the Canon's lens adapter and Canon's wide angle 58mm lens. I like to use the viewfinder on the Canon G5 but when the wide angle is attached, I can not see anything using the viewfinder, had to use the LCD to take pictures.
