R5/R6 Firmware 1.5.0 - Files removed from most Canon web site.

Formatted CFe no problem. SANDISK 128 GB.

I removed cfexpress card whilst installing v1. 5 which worked fine. After updating I put the cfexpress card and sd card back their respective slots. Did not reformat either card. Took several test shots and all is working fine on both cards. After seeing info decided not to carry out a format of the cfexpress card and await any updated info.
I installed my CFE, formatted it, installed the FW update on it, did the update and formatted the card again. I'm not seeing anything.
Likewise no problems with v1.5.0. I've done multiple shoots and multiple formats (using both CFe and SDXC) today without issue (R5).

today I shotted BIF and squirrels, 800 pictures.
I once suffered a "black death." Helped to turn on and off.
Weren’t those birds and squirrels notified of the sites that shut down access to FW updates? Normally when that happens they refuse to pose.

On the 2nd I loaded it during lunch on the R6 (US) and did a two hour shoot that night. No issues.

If Canon has pulled it then it would be across the globe!

Suspect it's a server glitch in europe or they suspect its corrupted, somehow!

I downloaded from UK and all is good :)
For what it's worth, the camera will not accept version 1.4 if 1.5 is installed
You can never go back :(
Yes you can, with EOS Utility you have an option for firmware update (downgrade in this case) and just select the firmware file version 1.4.0 and that's it.

If there is a problem with firmware 1.5.0, no doubt Canon will soon provide a 1.5.1 file that will correct it.

Yes indeed, but why are they not communicating about that ?
It's only been a day. Typically no company reacts that quickly.
I don't ask for a new firmware right now, I just may expect a communication saying why they have pulled out the new firmware if the reason is an issue for example.

Curious what data is leading you to believe there is an AF issue with the firmware that resulted in it's being pulled from a few sites. The Twitter post above shows Canon UK and Ireland essentially acknowledging that it's a website issue, and they are referring the author to the US site for download. It seems to still be available for download from most sites.

Hello All,

I see that the new firmware 1.5.0 files for EOS R5/R6 have been removed from most of the Canon web site.
Canon Belgium, Canon France, Canon UK, Canon Canada ...
Still present on Canon USA.
Anybody heard something about that ?

Oliver
It's still up on the Canon Australia website...

In the past, when an update had a tendency to "brick" the occasional camera, Canon would pull the firmware quickly after putting it up. Hence I generally wait a few days for other people to find out if there's a problem with the Firmware before I'll update my own device. However, in this instance a few days have gone by without issue. It's quite RARE to have any issues with Firmware unless certain precautions are not taken first. The number of people who attempt an update with a lens attached or a battery grip attached is surprisingly high... as is the number of folks who use depleted batteries, resulting in a stalled/failed update.
.
I read of one instance on Facebook two or three days ago where a user's camera was frozen up at around the 56% mark for 20 minutes... but not knowing if the comment is genuine or if the user had not removed lenses and accessories first or had not charged their batteries, I can't say for certain whether the problem was genuine or if it was later resolved. I only mention this because it's the only known instance I'm aware of where a camera appeared to be stuck during a Firmware update with 1.5.0.
.
The update took under 2 minutes to complete with my own camera. I had no issues. I am not aware of any other users having issues.

Yep, that’s what I was thinking as well when I found that tweet.. so chances are big it’s just a technical glitch.

You guys actually detach the lens? Haven't done that in all my 13 years with Canon... :-o

The paranoia is strong here!

I updated the firmware last Thursday and no issues.
But why are there country specific sites and not a single site ? They have their own TLD (.canon). All these country specific sites are confusing as it is a worldwide product.

But is there really a problem with this firmware ? Then they should fix it and publish it.
That is a general problem of modern electronics, they are too heavily dependant on software. In the past years I notice an increasing amount of software problems in electronics.

Same here. Keeping a lens attached never caused any problems with my cameras (70D, M50, R).
