What's your lens collection?

Canon EF 50mm 1.8. Fabulous value. I love this little lens

Canon 28-80 f/2.8-4 L Great lens, very sharp. My walkaround lens.

Canon 70-200 f/2.8L (non IS version) Didn't mean to buy this lens...has
a $1000 pricetag brand new. Found one on ebay that was from the LA
times for a little more than half what a new one costs...so I sucked it
up as soon as I saw it. Very, very sharp lens

Sigma 50-500 EX HSM f/4-6.3 Great long lens. This is my birding
lens...and also great for day trips (except for the weight) due to its
range.

Next up......Sigma 105 EX Macro, and a Canon 85mm 1.8

I must disagree with Adam the 70-200L is tack sharp IMHO. I had a choice oif the 80-200 or the 70-200L both new. ( I worked for a dealer at the time) I like the 70-200 seemd to be as sharper better than the 80-200 and IT TAKES THE 1.4 and 2X Canon converters. Again IMHO but whatever the chioice they are great lenses.
I've not tried the 70-200L, but the 80-200L is a great lens. It's
a heavy chunk of metal, but it's sharp as a tack. Be sure to get
the collar if you get one. It saved me a lot of money over the
newer model. $725 with collar and shade.

Hi there!

i would like to know if theres someone out there who has some experience of this glass, or even better, have some articles published on the net of this and other cheap objectives. i'm very poor for the momment (has just ordered the Canon 10d) and eager to buy some cheap wide-angle glass. Thank you!!

It's a decent performer if stopped down to F8-11 for the money, pretty useless wide open - so a landscape or indoor with flash lens really - not bad for £165 !!! though I'd get a used Tokina 20-35 F3.5-4.5 Mk1 or Canon 20-135USM instead if you can find one

Haven't heard that marketing term in a while!

Just want the 17/40 to arrive so I can compare!
16-35L 2.8 is light, tight, and a great range.

I use it often. No post-purchase dissonance whatsoever.

Canon 50/1.4 USM
Canon 28-105/3.5-4.5 II USM
Canon 75-300/4-5.6 IS USM

Canon EOS 7E
Canon 10D

Canon 420EX

Planning on getting the 16-35/2.8 L or 17-40/4 L ... not sure which. Comments?

I shoot 75% of the time with the 50mm and, lately, 99% of the time with the 10D.

I suppose people's findings WILL differ, sample variation does play a role but I compared the 80-200 to both the IS and non-IS (the IS was on a 1DS!) and it came out sharper than both (sharper than my 100 Macro at 2.8 too for standard prime work!) .. there isn't a lot in it, a hair or two either way but as you said - they're ALL very sharp and the pinnacle of Canon Zoom sharpness .

Well, one thing led to another, and here's what I have and the justifications (I need it for myself).

15mm Fisheye (Cool special effects + Ultra WA)
16-35L (Don't use very much, but saving for when I get 1D or 1Ds)
24-70L (Best every-day lens)
50 f1.4 (Indoor use. Not too excited about it)
Tamron 28-300 XR Macro (Excellent walkabout lens. Very happy with it)
70-200 f4L (Sharp, light, best in value)
85 1.2L (For portraits in lowlight. Waiting for it)
100 Macro (Do I need to say?)
200 1.8L (Well, I paid only $1300. I think I can sell it at > $2000 anytime)

Canon 1.4x, 2x TC
Canon EF25 Extension tube

Sold or returned:
100-400 IS (Something had to go... I miss it a lot)
70-200 IS (Heavy, overpriced...)
28-135 IS (Never liked it)
Sigma 15-30 (vignetting, weird filter, hood, construction...)

Future Plan:
35 f1.4 (to replace 50 f1.4)
135 f2 (when I get 1D/1Ds)
Canon or Tamron 14mm f2.8 (Need Rectiinear UWA)
Sigma 50-500mm or even Canon 600mm

People ask me, "where did you get the money?".

Well, I had to sell my audio system and collection of hundreds of DVDs. Sooner or later, I might have to sell my wife!!!
