Wacom tablet ?

David

i am using a 9x12 which is nice but it takes quite a bit of room.

You still need a mouse. I have the 3d mouse from Wacom also but use a wireless optical mouse for regular stuff.

I am using the airbrush, pens and the 3d mouse (mouse not much actually not at all for photo work)

i like the size because it allows you to trace 8x10's.

No matter what size the tablet wil be a welcome addition (you need a few days to get used to using it though)

How many are using the Wacom tablet?

Which size are you using?

Does this thing replace the mouse, or can you still have a mouse
hooked up, too?

The 4x5 one looks like it'd be pretty slick. I assume it's easy
to set it up so that pressure controls the opacity of brushes in
Photoshop ?

Yes, for tracing (or planimetering, like I do at work), you want a BIG tablet.

I don't see a lot of potential for me doing that at home, though.

How many are using the Wacom tablet?
I will soon, I hope!
Which size are you using?
Well it's the Graphire2 I'm getting, which is A6 ( 12x9cm)

You can have a separate mouse, and the tablet comes with its own mouse.

I've wanted a Wacom since they were first introduced. However, I somehow always forget about 'em when I'd have money to buy one! LOL. However, now mom promised to get me one. Hopefully I'll have one in a week. Can't wait!

...play with it, for $100 you'll see how versatile it is. I do most of my PhotoShop editing with it. Normally I keep it and a USB optical wheel mouse connected simultaneously and switch between the two as needed. I like the portability and bring it to work with me frequently.

I had the 4x5 to start with (I think it is in a drawer somewhere) it was too small. I am very happy with the 9x12 in size terms, it seems to give me a natural feeling stroke length. These things are a lot like mice in that it is a personal fit issue.

I still have a mouse connected because I like the trackball style mice. The Wacom 4 button mouse would replace a normal mouse.

Don Cohen did a much better job explaining pressure tools then I was going to ^ ^

What time do you usually get home from work?

I'd like to see it, just to get a feel for whether that size will be too small or not.

Anything in my kit you'd like to see up-close and personal?
This is the one I got from Amazon, David:

It works fine for me under WindowsXP home edition--easy to install
and I still have my other mouse connected but haven't used it since
getting the tablet. Come over and try it out if you'd like--59 W

David,
Not sure what size Murry has.

I have a 6x8 and you're welcome to give it a whirl if you get down to Houston some time. I wouldn't think of doing Photoshop without it.
Fred

David you can call me at 832-326-4749. We are in the Ashley Greens East subdivision clear to the back. Come West on 242 and turn left on Greenbridge (Exxon station on corner). Turn right at Research Forest Drive (water tower on corner). Come to the second Alden Bridge (not the one at the light). Turn right on Alden Bridge (Kroger center). Turn left at the first stop sign (CrownRidge). Turn left at the first street (Ardsley Square CT) and just keep straight ahead until you get to Bellmeade and turn right. We are the last house on the left.

You are more than welcome to have a look.

Murry Grigsby

Murry's got the 4x5.

Is yours the Intuis2? That's the one I'd probably get, though maybe only the 4x5.

What part of town do you live in?

Is this the new Jam Studio Tablet they used to sell at Kmart?

http://www.wintime.com.tw/product10.html
But for you who already use them... is it possible to use it to the
complete exclusion of a regular mouse? I mean... yes, I'd like to
be able to use it in Photoshop, but is that ALL it's good for? Do
you find it useful and easy to navigate, for instance, a web
browser (having to click links and stuff all over) or using menus
in other applications?
Jason, I've been using one for a good while so am very comfortable
with it. I COULD use it exclusively--I can easily right or left
click with it--but for some things, I prefer to use a regular
mouse. However, I often find myself reaching for the pen when just
reading the forum, for instance--its comfortable in my hand and
very easily used--I honestly don't even think about its use, but
then, as I said, I've used one for a number of years. I can only
recommend them highly--can't imagine what I would do without it.

sorry - couldn't resist that one.

I started a few years ago with a 4x5. I felt it was too small and bought a non-Wacom (to save $) 6x8. It took a while to get used to the larger size. The non-Wacom performance was poor, and I upgraded last year to the Wacom 6x8. I only use PS for photo work. I can see where someone doing "painting" or other applications may perfer the larger sizes. As another poster mentioned, it is very usable on your lap.
Fred

Do you normally use it in your lap?

If so, then the 6x8 might be the better choice (barring the price).

Thanks. My new laptop is supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I'll probably be playing with it for a few days.

Maybe I can bring it over next Saturday some time, and then I can see that tablet as well.

You really ARE way in the back, there. Just wait a few years, though. Pretty soon you'll be close-in. LOL.
