film... you can't beat it!

Digital also does not have the same problems film cameras have. So what? We don't use film so the problems film does not have is rather lost on a digital camera user. Film is going to go the way of the glass photographic plate. It is being replaced slowly and surely by digital. So I would disagree that film can't be beat, especially since it already is being beat in the point and shoot areana and soon the 35mm format followed quickly by the medium format, and eventually digital will even surpass large format.

I would agree with you Shay.

The other day I was watching T.V. and there was a press conference taking place. When it ended and the speaker started to leave up popped all the camera's taking pictures and I noticed that most if not all of them were obviously digital.
No doubt about it. Digital is the future.

Yes there are, but so what. You can own a film camera as well as a digital if you like. I don't own a film camera at present, but I still toy with the idea of buying one at times.

Digital is not better because it's the future - but it IS the future whether we like it or not.

Well said!

I remember the transition intransigencies from slide rules to calculators; from vinyl records to CDs; from analog tape recording to digital recording. And now we have the transition from analog (film) to digital in cameras. Over short time, the designers overcame the embryonic problems of these new technologies and eventually overwhelmed the media before them. Digital cameras need more speed and features, but once achieved, digital will not only overcome the problems associated with film, but it should provide the engineers years of fun inventing ways to add things never before seen possible with the messy and expensive globs of chemicals painted on plastic sheets.
Digital also does not have the same problems film cameras have. So
what? We don't use film so the problems film does not have is
rather lost on a digital camera user. Film is going to go the way
of the glass photographic plate. It is being replaced slowly and
surely by digital. So I would disagree that film can't be beat,

Well, define large print ...

If we are looking at 35mm vs the 5MP digital, 13 X 19 are more than comparable ...

Poster size.

But I don't really want to get into a debate. I'm on the side of digital - it IS the future. It WILL be better than film in every respect... one day. I liked Shay's glass plate analogy, that is exactly how I think film will be looked upon some day in the future.
