Critique, please....

I like it.. the angle, the subject, the framing.and the color... GREAT SHOT ! I think the only thing missing was the action. I think I wanted to see the motion. Maybe because kids don't get on bikes to sit on them - maybe just for pretend. Even a little motion blur in PS perhaps. I think my mind is doing the association between the bike and what a bike does and it's missing the second part. Almost like my brain is pondering - " Bike + Kid = Stillness ?? NO WAY " AHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

All just my thoughts. Can't get around the fact that its an excellent picture.

Thanks, Dave! Actually, he was moving but not that quickly because I was saying "slow down!" so I could get the shot. ;-) I was thinking the same thing about motion blur and worked on it for a while:

What do you think?

Great 3rd try. I really like the added movement, and the tones are perfect in this photo.

YES !! That's awesome !! I really like the ones with motion blur and I believe I prefer the last one. It enhances an already great shot. I think of it as INTENSE. Due to the angle of the shot and not having a face to focus on it makes me want to focus more on what is going on. The Blur brings me right into the shot - I feel like I'm on the bike ! Excellent photo and editing !!

Thanks, Jason! I originally tried it in b/w, but ended up with this because it matched the original color of my son's shirt. Appreciate your comment.

Hi Lindyloo,

I actually like the first one best. To me freezing the moment seems apropriate? Maybe becouse of the training wheels, I am not really sure.

If the subject was older on a bigger bike I think I would like to see movement but in this case I like the stillness of it.

Just my thoughts on a great shot.

Woody.

Hi Woody,
Thanks for your input. Goes to show...different strokes for
different folks!
I have seen that a lot lately, I think I view images differently, I don't really look at all the technical issues (yet) I just like to look at something that I enjoy :)
He was riding on our patio, so I let him get away without a helmet.
:-)
Fair enough :)

initially when i first looked at the first photo, i was like thinking something was missing... even though i like the angle, the composition etc.

then after i have seen the 3rd attempt - i thought yeah, this looks nice.

when i read woody's post, then i got slightly confused. because what he said is actually true... as in... it makes more sense with the stillness.

err, ok hopefully i have not confused you too much there. =)

it is a nice shot! well done!

Actually, Woody, there's nothing wrong with that. You don't always want to be part of the herd, do you? ;-)

btw, I thought about your comment about the stillness, and the moving image is actually more accurate. You should see my 4 yr. old FLY on his bike, training wheels and all! :-)

Thanks again, I appreciate your comments!

Violet,

Thanks for your input. I gave his comments some thought and decided that the 3rd shot is actually more accurate...my 4 yr. old son can really FLY on his bike, training wheels and all.

What clinched it is my husband's opinion. He wasn't really excited about the first pic, but he really liked the 3rd one. Seeing as he is the father of my children, I'd better go with that one. ;-)

No, not any more confused than I am normally! LOL!

That is fine, as it was only my opinion and at least I made you think :)

No problems.

Love this shot and the angle you did ...
