My next toy will be printer that will give an excellent print out. Which printer do all of the 707 owners use? I am considering Canon S800, S6xx, EPSON, 785 and HP 990. Thanks for your suggestion:)

You've struck a nerve!

What color management/profile settings do you use on a 870 to get accurate colors??? I have no complaints about the F707, the colors it captures are great for me. Colors from the printer are not great. The only way to get them right on so far is to use ColorLife paper and the ColorLife profile from Epson. I want to be able to use the ream of Epson Photo Paper that I have already AND get accurate colors.

From the research that I have done on this problem, it seems that Epson changed their ink formulation a while back and it has left the x70 series prints coming out with a red tint. My first couple of ink cartridges worked great (before I had this camera) but the last four have all had this problem.

(You're the first person I heard from that references both the F707 and the EP870 in the same sentence.)

Thanks,
LarryS

Larry,

First of all, I use Heavy matt paper. Next I check custom and click on advanced, Then uncheck high speed. make sure it's on color and 720dpi or more if you like, then check photo enhance4 and set the tone on - vivid to none, ck the digital correction box. Put sharpness right in the middle. On matt paper the photo always comes out a little lighter so I compensate with the tone control anything from none to normal to hard to vivid and then I check it in the epson preview. If it looks perfect on the preview I know it's going to come out a little too light so I darken it using the tone control and then it really does come out perfect.

Good luck.

I've been wondering this myself. Anybody have any other recommendations or comments? Thanks!

I trashed my HP three months ago as soon as I attached the S800. What an outstanding printer. I just couldn't believe the quality of the 8x10's especially at higher resolutions and the hype is true...each print in 2 minutes or less. I've done aroudn 200 prints so far on various papers (HP, Canon, Kodak) and it does well on all of them. And if the inks only last for 20 years...the image lasts forever...just print anohter.

I read in Digital Photographer magazine that Epson has a technology called Print Image Matching. Supposedly you get amazing output from cameras that are set up for PIM. The F707 is one of those cameras :)

They recommend the Epson Photo 820. It puts out 2880x720 dpi and prints borderless up to 8x10 and they say it is dotless. The magazine says that the output is phenomenal from a PIM enabled camera. I ordered one for only $119 , plus you get a $50 rebate for a total of $69. I recieved it a couple days ago but have yet to hook it up.
I use the HP 960 cse and have very good luck with it,,

Only a couple of months ago, I would have told you to seriously look into the Canon S800.

But now, I can't recommend that printer. Why not?

Because it's about to be phased out. Keep your eye out for its new brother, the S900, coming to the US soon.

If you want to go to a wider carriage, then look for the S9000 to be released in the US.

Of course, if you're in the UK or Japan, the above printers are already available.

I have hp 970 great prints but ink expensive. I guess the newer version would be 990.

I have to go with the Epson folks. I have one that is a little
older, the 860 and I use the old 16 bit shareware utility LView
to print.

Like somebody else already pointed out, (Under Settings) I have to select the right paper, pick Quality as Speed is default, Photo Enhance etc.

Those Advanced Settings right before you print are important.

Last of all if you are using a paint program to print, try printing
without optimizing your pic. Some monitors if they are not defined

in the paint program and you adjust the colors. what you see is not what the picture really is.

I was going to upgrade my printer but everything I read said
Epson has a good print process and upgrading isn't necessary.
I have been very happy with the color reproduction.

Hope this helps!

I have gone through Canon and HP and went with the epson 785 for 2 reasons. first it matched up with the espon 1640 scanner and second had a rebate coupon from staples for $30 against the printer sold for $199. With the 707 part of an epson promotion I have received a $100 rebate check from epson. Finally the 785 comes with a compact flash adapter that you can buy for $15, however epson will exchange that adapter for free for a memory stick adapter (took 5 weeks to receive as they claimed overwhelming demand) that sells for $45-60! Net net printer was almost free.

By the way it prints georgeous prints with it appears reasonable prices on color cartridges. another useful feature is when a memory stick with adapter is inserted in (computer does not have to be on) the printer will not only print a picture chosen but creates a very nice thumbnail of all pictures on the memory card.

Well I hooked everything up and printed out an 8x10 through the Epson PIM software. It looks absolutely perfect. I couldn't recommend it any higher! I simply imported the photo into the Epson software and a little blue "PIM" icon appeared at the upper corner of the thumbnail to show that the photo was taken with a PIM enabled camera. Then I clicked the Print Image Matching button, picked 8x10, picked my media type and hit print. In about 45 seconds I had a perfect replica of my on screen photo. It was that easy. It looks beautiful. Perfect output on first try...

Get an Epson PIM printer.

I personnaly would discard the Canon S-800, it is not the best choice out of the 3.

Now, I own an Epson Stylus 740 (decent for pic) and a HP photosmart 1315 (excellent for pic). The printer is one thing but the picture software is another thing to look at. Which one are U using, photosuite 8.1 supplied with the 707 or a real photo editor like Photoshop Elements or Photoshop 5.0 or 6.0 ??? Funny enough, if you try printing a pic from photosuite and then go to print it out of PSE or PS 5 or 6, you will see some major difference. Enough to think you have set the printer wrong ...

The Epson is not eating to much ink all at once as the HP tends to be a bit ungrier, Canon, I have printed pics at my friends and the blacks were not real, with lines on them well, not this great and the printer was in good shape, almost new. Overall, I love HP's

Tough choice.

Most likely I will be using Photoshop Elements which comes with my EPSON 2650 Scanner(Excellent scanner!). I am still doing a lot of research on which printer to get. I am hearing many diff stories from many users. I guess, I will have to go to my local Bestbuy and try few diff one.

The Hewlett Packard 970 Cse is good. It's HP's photo printer. The HP software is easy to install, and if you're concerned about the cost of ink, there are HP refilled cartridges are available for half retail price. Also, it's fairly easy to obtain and use the ink refills that let you fill the cartridges (a bit messy the first time). You can use generic photo paper, print-proofing paper, just plain paper, or use any one of the various HP glossy papers which go on sale every so often. For document printing, you can go to the menu and do black and white economy printing. I also have the HP 722C, but the HP 97Cse produces superior photo quality, which I believe, is what you would probably want.

Hi !

I test many of my pictures with Epson Photo 780 (my printer) and HP PhotoRet Printer in the same price/perfomance class (my friend use it).
Before with S70, now with F707, my prints is often 4x6 ....

The pixalization of Epson is NOT visible in diference to HP. (without magnifyng lens)...
I use MAC G4 and it's very fast and easy to install Epson ...

The maintance of Epson is easy, the inks are relative chiper , so if I must choose again , I 'll buy a Epson again :)

Branimir
