A compact camera with a high-quality prime lens, an APS-C sensor, and Foveon to boot? PAH-TAY!

This is the one I've been waiting for, for, like, YEARS. Thank you Sigma! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

me does a little jig in the corner, or perhaps a hornpipe

PS. I guess this sort of answers your question about the target market.
PPS. Oh, if it turns out to be a squib, I'll be... disappointed.

So 90% of compact cameras in existence are also "useless".

Strange, I take pictures just fine with every single camera I've used.

agreed.

i've been pining for an aps-c pocket cam. viewfinder be damned. if it shoots raw, fits in my pocket, and has ISO performance as would be expected from such a large sensor (ie: better than canon's most recent 6mp 1/2.5" in the sd630/700IS/S3IS)...i'm just about sold.

in my fantasy, it was a 2.8 lens...and took up the entire front of the camera. but hey...one can't exactly be choosey with a groundbreaking camera such as this.

makes me wonder if the big boys will have the guts to follow.

Look at the back panel - you have in the upper right corner the W/T
buttons. WTF? Why, if the lens is fixed focal lenght, would they
use W/T buttons?????????????
the lens also should telescopically protract, as pointed out by three circles around it.

I think DP1 is in very pre-production state by now. Changes will follow, but hope they will not touch the sensor.

I also tend to think that DP1 is a special bait to see the public reaction and make chages accordingly. Ok, my reaction is: needs hotshoe, and 30/1.4 prime.

Here's one reason why perhaps.

You may have noticed this camera has movie mode (WOW - no more excuses for SLR's like the SD14 not to have this!)

If it does VGA, then you could use W/T to zoom in and out digitally during movie mode - that wouild be most cool!!!

previews.
I thought so, but there are dual markings. One pair is below the buttons and those are for previews. On the buttons there are explicit "W" and "T", could mean only zoom and nothing else.

Perhaps a zoom brother to DP1? Say 35-100/4-5.6? DP1 in the left pocket, DP2 in the right pocket (or vice versa). Heaven!
I only hope for tilt-up LCD and a filter thread on the lens.

Digital zoom - both in taking the picture and in preview.

Or - it could be a misstake. It is a development model if the comment by Phil is correct. Its not the real stuff.

But not in video.

...although personally I'd rather see a fast normal (25mm F2 on X3) or a medium zoom (16-50) than a fixed wideangle.
I'd also like a swivel LCD and a hotshoe, but you can't have everything!
