I hear that Van Gogh's mistress had a sure fire way of removing ear hair. He tried it once and did not like the look.

And then he took a job as the person the Verizon ad guy is always talking to (can you hear me now?)

I voted, just waiting for the results.....

Verizon what's Verizon? We don't have it over here - or at least i've never seen hide or hair of it

Sorry, that was a USA joke. Verizon is a phone company in the USA, and IIRC, it recently split into two pieces. The piece that runs the cell phone network (Verizon wireless) runs these ads, where a guy is on a cell phone and goes all over the country, and keeps saying "Can you hear me now?" into the phone, presumably to show how Verizon wireless is continually adding to its network and improving service. The lame joke I was attempting to make was that Vincent would be on the other end of the call, and couldn't hear the Verizon guy.

that nice Warren has gone and put the galleries in the right order
for me.
Entirely accidental. I deleted a spurious gallery and Linux (which works in mysterious ways) decided to change the order of the other galleries.

I suppose I should add features to reorder and rename galleries and omit place-holder images.
Now there's a man who'd know how to deal with his nostril hair!
Is nostril hair to this forum as purple singlets are to the Kodak SLR forum?

to me, anyway.

I always assumed We "knew" which the good photos were, and everyone voted that way. But no, a quick glance down the votes gives you no idea what the front runners are, there is no mathematical "feel" to it at all.

So get on in there guys, there's everything still to play for.

I don't think so, but being tied up and beaten seems to be.

as for allowing current moderators to delete or rename galleries if they stuff up, that can only be a good thing and will save many a red face (all of them mine probably ;-)

Aha, thanks for explaining. I couldn't begin to imagine what it might be - possibly some sort of potted meat i th
ought ;-)

It might be interesting to see how many people change votes in the time period..... (or not -- this is the first voting system I've seenw where you can change your mind after the initial vote).

This used to be totally public of course, but now I tend to think of it as a bit private, I don't think I'd want to be doing non-anonymous analyses, especially since I have an entry in myself. I just had a quick flick through a dump of the votes and was amazed to see each set of votes is quite different.

I always assumed all the senible people voted like me and the order was then messed up by a few dingbats(!) but no, it seems none of us ever agree on anything :-)

Ummm, in general if you have red faces, it is a sign you need to get out the expodisc/white card/old pringles lid/coffee filter/etc. or whatever you use to set the white balance.

Just goes to show that beauty is indeed in the Eyes, Ears, and Mind of the beholder. This is also why these "contests" are so much fun for those who participate. You can express yourself and challenge yourself, and in reality it only matters if you are happy with your work.

I enjoy the feedback from others (good , bad and helpful) more then any vote number.

they are only visible to people who have the password for the voting admin pages - among them the moderator of the current challenge. Voting is anonymous, but the moderator has to keep an eye on things to make sure obody chats or that nothing lese goes wrong. We all get to see the results at the end.
Silly question; Where are the votes viewable?

It used to be a public "post your votes here" system and now it is an automated system as you saw. I can see them because as the current mod I'm supposed to check it is all going OK (it is) and nobody is cheating (very unlikely).

Very, very tight now - two favourites with a point between and at least four others well palced to come up the outside rail... If you haven't voted, you could be the decider :-)

I dunno. We had a case of vote rigging in the Olympus Talk Forum maybe 1-2 years ago, that caused people to abandon the automatic vote counting system and go back to everybody posting their votes. So it can happen....
