Canon Raw Converter

DPP - Digital Photo Professional. i don't know if it's on their CDs yet, otherwise you probably need EVU to install it.
I've got the Canon CD but don't want to load all the stuff. Which
program contains the Raw File Converter?

Nekdo je moral Josefa K. o'crniti, zakaj ne da bi bil storil kaj slabega, so ga nekega jutra prijeli.

if you want a handy tool for extracting JPEGs, i can supply you with my homemade extractor. it doesn't carry over EXIF and needs .net framework, but you can embed it into windows shell and use it via right-click on folder with raw files.

oh, and it's for the 300d.
Thanks, Glenn.

Agreed... though the way it does batch is annoying.

And the pull down WB setting if you know the light is nicer in DPP from Canon sometimes than the sliders or guessing by Raw Shooters.

But overall, Raw Shooters is a better program with better results.
Don't bother with that program ... go to http://www.pixmantec.com and
download their free and much more powerful converter! ASAP!

quickly and easily. Seems like no one ever answered your question, so there it is. Canon's FileViewerUtility, which is also on the CD, is more for just looking at digital images of all types. Load the ZoomBrowser and when you click on a RAW image, it will ask if you want to convert it for viewing. I think that's what you're looking for. I agree, however, that RawShooterEssentials 2005 is a better, faster, program and it downloads free from

http://www.pixmantec.com/products/rawshooter_essentials.html

When you get to their page, it looks like it's for sale, but the download is free and I like it very much. I don't yet have anough experience with it to say whether its really better than CS2 PhotoShop or Canon's own, but I've read that Canon's is kind of low-level. Good luck. jim

Being a photographer is easy; just take lots and lots of pictures.

But it says that it is "trial version". Will it expire some time?
Why is it better then Canon's home-made software?

No RSE, is free for ever and will continue to have free upgrades according to the company. I have been using it since its release and IMO it is the best converter out there and I have tried most of them.

I believe that the site says that RSE will always be available for free, but they don't promise that there will be any more upgrades.

They have been saying for quite sometime now that RS Premium which will be sold for an unspecified price is "coming soon."

Michael Tapes has said a number of times that there will continue to be free upgrades to RSE. RSP will be the paid version and have more features.

Yeah, CS2 does a nice job in Bridge. As does RawShooterEssentials, another free download. I kind of prefer CS2.

BTW I was wrong about the Canon FileViewerUtility -- it will jerk the jpegs out of the CRW files too, a little faster and easier than the ZoomBrowser in fact. jim

All I have ever seen is that they will continue to provide RSE for free. Nothing about upgrading it. Here is what their site says:

Also note this official statement from our Newsletter:

The most commonly asked question we receive at Pixmantec concerns our strategy for a FREE product, after all nothing ever comes for FREE, does it? Well, yes it does. RawShooter ~ essentials 2005 will be FREE forever more. There are no hidden catches and no expiry date; it is quite simply a superb FREE gift to the digital photographer community from one of the most exciting and innovative teams in the world of digital imaging. We understand that some users have been given the impression that the product is only FREE for a trial period, as eluded to by the messaging received during product download. However, we can categorically state that RawShooter ~ essentials 2005 will be FREE for ever and that messages received to the contrary are merely a function of the services of our e-commerce partner.

It was said by Michael a number of times in the forum in reply to others concerns. Bit hard to find, but I am sure it is in there.
