Since there was no "big announce" at CES from Samsung, I will be the one who'll give you a surprise instead :D

So, there will be no new cameras for now. And no new lenses. And some of you decided to keep what you have 'till it breaks. And maybe buy some lens(es) you need for next 2-3-5 years. Well, this is your chance.

Samsung provides very strange service and repair policy. They actually don't "repair" lenses if, say, something is wrong with motor or aperture unit (as Canon or Nikon does). They just replace the whole lens. For example, I had 45mm 3D lens that had oil on it's aperture blades. But service manual for this lens has only two parts: lens and lens mount. That's it, you can't buy aperture unit. Thanks no engineers, it has simple constriction, so I managed to disassemble it and clean aperture very easy. But, I digress...

You can buy "spare parts" in Samsung service or any website or shop, that sells it. And there is very interesting "part" called "ASSY BARREL TOTAL". It means complete lens. With caps. No hood. It will come in grey carton box with a limited warranty for a few months. And the price... Get ready to be surpirsed.

Here is a short list of models and corresponding part numbers. I won't post links, where you can buy it - just Google it. You can find another part numbers there and find the lens you need. I also post prices that are in list for today.

10mm f/3.5 - AD97-23814A - $138.20

16mm f/2.4 - AD97-21701A - $161.70

30mm f/2 - AD97-18379A - $124.26

45mm f/1.8 2D - AD97-23093B - $183.82

60mm f/2 - AD97-21044A - $383.17

85mm f/1.4- AD97-21694A - $514.34

12-24mm f/4-5.6 - AD97-23085A - $184.47

16-50mm f/2-2.8 - AD97-23876A - $621.67

50-150mm f/2.8 - AD97-24501A - $757.74

And you can get spare batteries in the same way as well. For example, NX30 battery:

BP1410 - AD43-00225A

I can only imagine how much money did Samsung lose due to this dumb service policy. And it will be no surprise if this was one of the major factors that led to current NX state. You just can't repair lens buy replacing it. It's not a freaking vacuum cleaner or a fridge.

And I'm sorry if my post will lead to heavy price drop on used gear (at least here on DPreview). But the things are what they are. And since there will be no new cameras in near future, some will have a chance to enjoy new lenses for reasonabe prices.

It also is a mark to those who in doubt about selling their gear and jumping into another system. I'll be glad to see you in EOS M club :)

Wow! Way to think outside the box, this is the best post I've read on here in a long time. I hope that bringing it to light doesn't change the way it works though.

Any idea of the difference between BARREL-TOTAL and BARREL-SUB_TOTAL? Seem to save a bit and it may just be for lens caps and hood perhaps...

Wow, thanks for the post. I would love to get some of those lens at that price. BTW, did you actually tried to order from some of those shops?

I guess sub-total goes to lens without lens mount, since, as I said, Samsung usually shows lens consisting of 2 parts: lens and lens mount.

I've ordered lenses in that way in official Samsung service. I was very surprised first too, when they offered me that and was doubted it is real till I got lenses. So, yes, it really works. However, I don't know if those shops you can google will be reputable. I advice you to go to Samsung service and ask for it.

I only ask you to not abuse this feature. It may help someone to get brand new lenses for great price and not meant for reselling it to people, who doesn't know about that.

Some time ago there was a story about how services in Poland abused this to no end and lenses were available at ridiculous prices (in line with yours, but I think even lower) and that brought some sanctions by Samsung for them IIRC.

Could be a nice way to use for actual repair if the need arises. I'm pretty sure they have plenty of "spare parts" floating around Samsung...

Wow! Thanks for this. I'm going to order my dream lens, the 16-50mm. I rented it over the holidays and just returned it yesterday. I was very sad to see it go back, but just couldn't swing the $1200 retail price.

thanks just ordered the 12-24mm from an online vendor i have previously bought part for for other samsung needs. (lcd replacement screens for tablets) so i know the vendor is no flake. Will know in about 5 business days the result.

Ij ust bought a new in box 60mm for $389 via an ebay seller i have delt with before so i did not need that one and I have a nice 12mm rokion i think works better for my needs than the 10mm fish eye. but at the price i might pickup the 10mm just to place on my NX-1000 body for fun in a compact size.

This is a good post.. nice to see.. also great info : D

Thanks.

Ordered the 50-150 S!

This further demonstrates that Samsung treats cameras like any common commodity item. To them a lens is no different than a washing machine motor and therefore can be ordered as a repair part.

I've seen those on eBay exactly as described (no retail packaging) sold from Poland and Hungary mainly, but after sometime they disappeared. This explains it.

I really hope you guys don't just get a bag of bits rather than a working lens, too much cash for me to risk for the 16-50 or the 50-150....good luck

Looks legit. Even the pictures show a full lens. Worst case it gets returned. No big risk. I will use a Visa card however because PayPal sucks with disputes if it ever got to that.

Lol me too. I'll let you all know when it arrives. I also am not worried since I used a credit card.

Hallo everybody. I tried to search with spare code but something gone strange. In USA for example the "AD97-24501A" is sold for 757 ollars, but in belgium the same "spare" got an hight price: 2389,45 euros...so why?

Thanks a lot for posting this. I'm very surprised. I just ordered the 12-24 for $201.42. The price in germany is 499€.

Good to know! Only thing is I can buy a retail version of 30, 45, 60 and 85 cheaper than ordering their equivalent "spare parts", and I have no interest in the S lens....

Does anyone has the fisheye or 16mm??? Any comment??

i cant speak to the 10mm fish eye. but i have the 16mm and its a great lens with min distortion and has great detail and is very compact. I have to be careful of hand placement on my NX-1 with the 16mm however. Now that i have both the S 16-50 lens and the 16mm prime i can say the S is a better lens at 16mm its sharper and way faster focusing but it also cost multiples more than the 16mm. also the 16mm prime is compact. the 16-50mm S lens is rather large for most NX cameras except the NX-1 and its fairly heavy lens.

Right now the 16mm prime stays on my NX-300 or my NX-1000 its so small and keeps the camera pocketable. (sometimes ill use the 30mm but since i have been using the 16-50 S i honestly have not used the 30mm nearly as much as before)

So to recap i would surely go for the 16mm NX lens as its a great compact performer at a really good price right now.
