So I'm trying to take pictures of the Perseid Meteor shower but I can't get the FZ1000 to take longer than 1 second shots. The manual says to change the shutter type from Electronic to Mechanical in Manual mode but it is greyed out and I can't change it. I can change it in C1 or C2 but then I can't seem to manually adjust the aperture and exposure compensation.

Help!

T minus 8 hours and counting and my Canon will do the trick but I really want the FZ1000 to do the job as well. Working on the v2.2 firmware.

thanks

-Chris

Edit: Reset camera to factory defaults and I can do it now although I have no idea why I couldn't before. Very confusing but I'm set now. Thanks

I had the same problem. I found that turning SILENT MODE on makes it so you can only use electronic shutter, and not manual.

SO.. when trying to use the fz1000 for exposures longer than 1 second, I've found that I have to have the camera in the CUSTOM setting with SILENT MODE off.

HOPE THIS HELPS

OMG, I’ve been so frustrated by this & it was due to the SILENT mode!! Thank you!!

If you have not already done download the PDF "Owner's Manual for advanced features".

The small "Basic Manual" is just that — covers ONLY the basics; does not cover in depth all the FZ1000's features and settings.

The PDF FZ1000 Advance Features manual is searchable to help find items quickly.

You do not need to read the "Owner's Manual for advanced features" cover-to-cover, read the sections pertaining to the features of the camera you want used; i.e., I'm not interested in video so I have not fully read the video sections—just did a quick glance to see what's available.

Read the "How to use this manual" and "Before Use" sections to understand how the various icons, notations, and nomenclature for camera's controls are used in the manual. For doing searches need you use the notations, and nomenclature for camera's controls.

Below are screen-shots from the FZ1000 Owner's Manual for advanced features.
