DA* 60-250 in 135 format. Not FF but not bad either.

In case anyone wants to know. (It has probably been shown before. I wouldn't hesitate to try the lens on a FF Pentax if one came out. LR can fix some vignetting but I didn't try anything.

60mm

85mm

135mm

200mm

250mm

Vignetting quite pronounced beginning with 135mm but not so bad below that. What telephoto shots don't I crop a little bit anyway.

250mm really notice the vignetting here

A little crop and no problems at 200mm That lens can sure draw some colours.

what body was used in these tests ?

If Pentax ever goes with a mirrorless, one option I would hope they would consider would be to go 24x24mm square -- I mean, the images you have provide here demonstrate that the DA* 60-250mm can readily cover 24x24mm with almost no vignetting at all. I would imagine most of their other DA and DA* lenses would be similar.

And I for one really like (and miss) square format.

I like the old 645 format (4/3rds). I suspect most of the DA lenses would do fine with an 18x24 set up, although I don't know who would bother to produce a square or 18x24 sensor.

I agree that it would be helpful to know what body was used. Also, I suspect the fall-off probably varies depending on the focal distance. As for cropping to avoid fall off, in my Canon FF days I got pretty fed up with even the decent FF primes that had too much CA and fall off to be allowed to go uncropped. So, I switched back. These problems just aren't so evident on the crop cameras.

Any ideas why the vignetting is not the same in all four corners?

I got my hands on an A7 to try it with my Novoflex adapter I use with my NEX-7. So the A7 is 24X36mm sensor at 24MP. I did notice for the first time a little play in the adapter with the heavier 60-250 lens on the A7. Might have to switch to the Voigtlander. I wouldn't bet against a little vignetting even with some FE lenses mounted on the A7.

I should have tried some vignetting control in LR to see if that can negate some of it. Somebody else told me the A7 has some in-camera vignetting correction (but might be jpeg only). I could check that out too. But I was just trying out the lens on the cam to see how it fares with no attempt at correcting. It is MF and no SR so any OOF or blur is my fault as I didn't bother with the tripod for this quick test.

Cheers.

Slightly loose adapter? I've never noticed any play in the Novoflex but thought I felt some with the heavier 60-250 mounted (Never put it on the NEX-7 only the K-3)
