Z9 Firmware 3.0 bug, continued

Looks like the new firmware 3.01 fixes this bug.
  • If [AF-area mode], [AF-area mode + AF-ON], [Recall shooting functions], or [Recall shooting functions (hold)] was assigned to a control using Custom Setting f2 [Custom controls (shooting)] with [3D-tracking] selected for [AF-area mode] in the stored settings, the camera would sometimes fail either to focus or to track the desired subject when autofocus was initiated by pressing the chosen control in focus mode AF-C.
I will test later. Anyone tried it already?

It works now, after brief testing.

I just put 3.01 on my Z9 and tested it in the same way as previous. I am happy to report that 3D Tracking works better, and specifically doesn't jump off with or without subject detection turned on. It's much 'stickier' on the selected subject.

I did see one thing that seemed a bit odd, but which is probably normal? As I was moving my camera with 3D tracking of a selected subject (part of a painting on the wall), I noticed that my AF box would sometimes jump off the subject and onto something else.

Then I noticed a pattern to it. 3D is VERY sticky to around the DX area and more, but once the 3d tracking box gets to the edge of the viewfinder, it has a tendency to jump to something else. This is pretty much when the very edge of the AF area (green box) is right up to the sides of the viewfinder. There would be no additional focus points outside the box which might help to influence the tracking.

But inside the edge of the viewfinder, 3D is now (based only on a single test, so big grain of salt here) acting a lot more like my D850. I'm definitely more confident that 3D is working well now.

With subject detection on? Don't really know yet as I need to do more testing and get field experience, but it seemed perfect in my little test, whereas it did not seem perfect before. So far though I haven't been able to get 3D to fail like it did before. It's better.
