Z50II Quick Review-WOW!

I've recently got the z50ii, previously using the zfc which is now my pocket camera. What a step up!!

Does anyone know if the third party eyecups that were made for the original z50 work on the z50ii? Is it the same size?
Sort of, there are now screws under the new design. Once those are off, they seem similar enough. I was able to slide a similar one on, but I have to dig up my original JJC's. If not I'm sure they'll make a new design for them.

A friend of mine got her Z50II today and I wanted to see how much better it was than my little Zfc. As I also own a pair of Z9's and a Zf, I was curious to see how this low cost creation stacked up.

In a word...WOW!

The Z50II is a "serious" little beast! The AF is not quite on the level of my pro bodies, but a pretty substantial leap above my Zfc.

...

Robert
Thanks, Robert :-D

... as a second body, I bought a Zf over my Z30.

50K shots on the Z30 and no IBIS?
YEAH, but my last shot in 2003.... was a film with no IBIS,
and no VR as well.

...

It's been a long time I've been discussing with myself if I would be able to replace with a Z50II "my beloved Z30" ...

What about replacing the Zf instead ?

So far the only specific lens I gifted the Zf is the 24-200Z,
same range as the 18-140Z

>> I can buy from Nikon a Refurb Kit Z50II+18-140Z for 1300€

Then sell the Zf + 24-200Z for 2000€,
a lot less what I paid them [2500€] + the old 18-140Z for around 400€ [700€]

:-( or the Z30+18-140z for 900€ :-(

....

>> Or... get the Z50II NOW, as a third body...
( I need a bigger boat ... and decide later ? )
I DID IT!!

Robert, it's your fault.

!!! you have to feel shameful to put an old guy on GAS !!!

>> Tuesday will be the day !!

>> Meanwhile, I need to prepare myself and get a Bigger Boat

( ... and a bigger backpack SLING as well )

PS: in regard to the Z30
... and if...

the Z30+original 14-140Z are seen as a gift to my son?

It's a very expensive gift, oh yeah ... but ...
> in November he will go to Japan <

The way Nikon is putting kick-butt focus capabilities into all of these bodies is really sweet. So I'll say it, just like the Z5II about to ship, this entry level camera might be all anyone needs. IQ is typical Nikon excellence and the ergonomics are well done, though it's a bit small for my hands. I love the real MODE dial.

Only downside: For some reason my FTZ adapter was tough to mount, very stiff. Probably just my particular adapter.
My FTZ works fine with my z50 ii, so likely your adapter. I'm assuming you have V1 like I do...
I don't need this camera, but I sort of want one anyway. I'm holding out for an update for the Zfc, which would be basically the same camera.

Anyone looking for GAS relief, I'd recommend this camera over ANY previous generation body! Yeah, it's a very complete camera with virtually no downside. I expect the Z5II will be more of the same fun.

My only critical comment....I don't understand why Nikon doesn't add IBIS and just push the price point a bit higher. They'd absolutely own the segment at around $1150.

Now where's that 60 MP Z7III and and ultra-fast shooting crop sensor Z500? ;-)

Robert

They could put IBIS in a Z80 body for $1,450 and have the Z50ii as well at its current price.
Add the tilting screen style of the Z8 and I'm in!

Is a 3rd party grip for the Z50ii being possible if this camera sell enough units? False dream?

I don't see why not, it won't have a shutter release button.

Its a shame Nikon didnt make a grip for the Z50II. But if you really need a grip, youve got to go FX

LOL! Awesome!

The Z50II really is a remarkable camera. Use it like a high quality P&S or throw a fast prime on it in manual mode and get "serious!" ;-)

Yes, old version. It's a bit tight on my Zf as well. Likely my sample.

Using the FTZ, I mounted my Sigma ART 135mm and it worked perfectly, though a bit long with the crop. The 85 1.8 or 1.2 would be awesome on the Z50II

Robert

Now where's that 60 MP Z7III

Robert
That's the one I'm waiting for. It will go perfectly with my Z 8 and Z 9 :-) I'm totally done with DX.
