As many know, there was a time last summer when I was in a major barn rut. Bored myself and everyone on the Forum with endless fluffy posts. Thought I'd gotten it out of my system.....but, here's one never posted that I particularly like, especially as Jason has put us in a B&W mode. Please forgive me.

Best wishes,

Isn't that just the most beautiful barn? And as soon as my camera is back from the doctors, I'll be posting my old redwood barn. Nowhere near as pretty as yours. I love old stuff like this. Good old days of past (No phone, no ww1 or ww2, and no income taxes.). Just as long as you were not female or black, it was good. I better start posting and stop analyzing.
Gregg

PS Where was this taken? East coast no doubt. I've got one of the rarer west coast barns. 1890 is old out here.

Hi Gregg,

Will be eagerly awaiting your redwood barn. Like you, I love these old structures.

Here in northern Vermont there are countless old barns like this one. Many are in shameful states of disrepair and collapse. But all are beautiful and somehow evocative of better and simpler times.

There are some you might like on my website, if you care to have a peek.

Thank you very much for your comments.

Best wishes,

Hi David

No need for forgiveness. I for one completely enjoyed that "barn rut". Boring?? No way! Barns have so much history and character to them.
This shot is terrific!!

Did I miss the whole point of yesterdays "hidden tower" post?? Sometimes subliminal messages just woosh over my head..;> )

I like old barns too---altho' ours here are quite different--no cupolas for the most part either. We don't normally have the stone first floor with the hay lofts above either (having raised livestock for quite a few years, I'm really cognizant of all these little things LOL). I love 'Maryland' barns and New England barns, but I try to find these down here too. Still-barns are less important here where much livestock can live outdoors all year--except for the dairy farms where you have to bring in the cows to milk. Keep shooting them--I'll enjoy them all. I particularly like this one in B/W.

Hello David, I enjoyed the picture of the very high class barn...cupola no less, I used to be the chief barn cleaner outer a few years back. I am getting close in my education on making a web page.
Wee brain has megahurts. Thanks again.

Thanks very much Bill. You and I are similar in our appreciation of old barns. When are you driving over to do an E-10 Barn Explore Day??

Hehehe.....well, I'm nothing if not obscure. That hidden tower was meant as a vague allusion to a need to escape the strife that has pervaded here lately. I got the "vague" part right anyway.

Hi Diane,

Thank you.

I appreciate your comments on the regional differences in barn styles and usage. Here in northern New England there are noticeable differences when you travel from Vermont through New Hampshire and into Maine.

Probably I WILL keep shooting them......can't seem to stop myself.

Hi Kollin,

Thanks for looking and appreciating.

Someone was complaining a couple of days ago about too much "fluff" being posted here......he felt many of the pictures were uninteresting. I reckon I specialize in that genre.

Hi Jim,

Chief barn cleaner outer? Whoa! I salute you, sir. I'm lucky to be allowed to photograph some of them occasionally. lol.

Glad you liked this one. I don't know about the "high class" thing though.

boy is that subjective! or is he some kind of licensed "critic" or something?

Hi David,

What . . . no snow, no bridge, no shoe???? ;0) I must have missed the barn series. This is a very nice one though. I think you're just sick of processing snow pics myself. Winter will be over soon . . . I think.

Regards Sybil

Nice picture. I would have liked to have seen the other barn shots. I have taken a few of those myself.

Winter is over down here. The grass is growing and I expect to be able to start taking wild flower pics by the next week or so.

Definitely sick of everything having to do with snow. But no.....winter has barely begun here. March and early April are usually the snowiest periods for us.

Glad you liked the barn. I posted many over the summer. Some of them are scattered around my website. You can get to the thumbnails here:

http://www.mongoosephoto.com/thumbnav.htm

They would be in the Odes, Laments, and Desiderata sections.

Maybe at some point I'll collect all the barns into a special section of their own....but that won't be for a while.

Hope all is well in sunny CA!

Hi Tommy,

Thanks for looking. Glad you liked this barn. There are others if you're interested at the link I gave in the reply to Sybil.

Hey....stop gloating about your winter being over! We're just getting ready for our snowiest couple of months here. Aaaackk!

Hi Larry,

No.....I'm afraid not. Pleasant Street in which town?

This particular barn is in the vicinity of Craftsbury Common, Vermont.

Why don't you take a pic of the one you're thinking of on Pleasant St., and post it here so we can compare? That would be cool.

Best wishes,

David

Reminds me of the time I was a kid. My brother and I would take
the old man's Cub Cadet tractor down the road to an old abandoned
barn ( built in the mid to late 1800's). We would wrap chains around
the support beams, and hook it to the tractor, allowing enough slack
to, hopefully, pull the beam down. Yes, fine educational dollars at work
then. At least we were able to determine, that Cub Cadet made damn
fine lawn tractors. Nice shot David, is that an asphalt shingled roof?
I remember the barn, we tried to get to fall on us, had wood shingles.

p.s. he still uses that same Cub Cadet. Amazing.
