X-E5 thread has reached its limit.

People are in meltdown mode about the filmsim dial over at FR, absolutely out of their minds. The item revealing there would be one drew nearly 400 comments, and a followup purporting to assure the filmsim dial would not take away any X-E# features drew nearly 500.

The sheer number and intensity of the reactions is mystifying. I thought there would be happiness about the arrival of this camera. I mean, the filmsim thing is dopey, but if features aren't being taken away, does it really matter?
I guess it’s part of leaks being…leaked little by little. Building up tension. Personally I would prefer to have a dedicated iso dial for example instead of the film sims that don’t fit all on the dial anyway. Or a metering dial like the one that was present on early X-T* cameras or a drive dial. But it is how it is.
Fuji are attracting the younger crowd with their mid range cameras, film sims being kinda unique to Fuji, but other manufacturers like Nikon and Olympus before have been working on different jpeg recipes and having a dedicated physical control point for those.
It seems that people dreamed, fantasized, or convinced themselves there would be features restored or added to the X-E5 that were either taken away after the X-E3 or were never present, but folks hoped for. Well, things were added: 40mp, IBIS, and a filmsim dial, per what is currently "confirmed" per Rumorotti. And nothing was taken away from the X-E4. But trauma is in the air.

I was curious about your comment as 5 seconds is an eternity. So I put a stop watch on mine. My inward press and hold is for the level so I can see the green level line appear when activated. Mine takes two seconds. I think one would have been fine.
OK, you got me trying mine. Seems to be a bit over two seconds, with significant error bars, so it seems to agree with yours. I’m sure I saw five seconds written somewhere, and when I loaned one I certainly remember finding it really inconveniently long. Doesn’t seem so bad now.
The one thing my Z8 does which I wish Fuji would adopt is when I pull out the screen, the display comes on.
Yes! This is one of the things I really like about the X-Pro3 and X-T4: they both know when the screen is hidden and automatically shift to the viewfinder, which—while subtly different—is similar. As you say, there’s no reason they couldn’t do the reverse when extending the top table screens. I think the X-E4 has a magnet in it to detect the screen opening, which is what causes it to flip the view upside down when the screen is out and the EVF proximity sensor detects something (intended result: selfie/vlogging screen; actual result: virtually impossible to use as a waist level finder… a switch in the menu would have been nice)
For camera use on a tripod - can you say landscape - I prefer to use the the screen and it is very convenient for the camera to say oh, you are going to use the LCD when it is pulled out from the resting spot and transfer, shut off the EVF and bring up the OVF. That is one thing I really like about the Z8 UI - although it has some warts in its UI. The other thing in this mode I simply touch the spot for focus and the camera focuses and then after a brief delay - shoots. My Q2M did the same. Again on a tripod I like that workflow. I know one can tap to focus with Fuji X cameras, but not shoot as far as I am aware.

As I am getting up there in age compactness is very important to me. But almost as important are very good af, image quality, keep down noise in low light. View features mean very little to me.Given these needs would I be happier with an XE-5 or an XT-5?
Well if compactness is the top priority, then the XE5. However, I’d like to see if Fujifilm brings back the nominal grip of past models, because by the time I add a grip or half case to my XE4, it weighs 420 grams and adds several millimeters to the size. At that point, it’s more equivalent to an XT50, and somewhat closer to the XS20, which is another option that’s lighter and smaller than the XT5. I mostly keep and use the XT5 when I need WR.
