Amazon is charging almost 2 grand for a 70-200mm 2.8 IS. Many months ago, it was down to around $1400...Does anyone know why the prices have gone up on all their camera equip. and when will it go down again?

Who really knows with amazon, there prices move up and down so quickly. Could even be a "typo"

Im a noob, take everything I say with a grain of salt

I noticed that almost all Canon lenses have gone up in price. I was just able to (easily) sell my 1 year used 100 Macro and 24-105L for about the same that I bought them for. I suspect I could have gotten even more than I paid for them if I really tried...

dont remember it ever being that low unless you were looking at the non-IS version ..

b&h is the same kind of money ...and they run that range here in canada as well

Lens is hard currency. Dollar is not.

It's $1780 at Canoga camera. It's believe it's mostly on supply and demand that the price fluctuates.

The 70-200mm f/2.8L IS has always been around $1,800. I've seen it on sale for $1,700 but not $1,400 (unless you're talking about the non-IS version, a used lens or a scam).

Amazon is great, what to watch out for is there third party resellers ,$3008.00 for a 35L, (all about electronics) and they even had the 70-200 at 4K

I sent an email to amazon complaining about these scam resellers, but I only buy from Amazon if they have stock

I do that too. I will buy from Amazon when THEY are filling the order, not a third party. I know they're not all bad but I've have my share of bad experiences when dealing with 3rd parties so I tend to shy away now. OTOH, it's been smooth sailing to date with my direct Amazon purchases.

I got mine for $1450. After m$ cashback and a low percentage back on the credit card, the final price came to $1325 new for mine.

I did have to send it back due to obvious issues though, so tack on another $25 for shipping and a two week wait time and it still comes to $1350 + two weeks. I'm very impressed with the one I have now, and bought it because I knew the price was only going to go up.
