We all know the ways Windows has emulated the Mac OS over the years, I was wondering how, if at all, OSX has taken on any of XP's features.

OSX and XP pro are similar in a lot of ways.We all know the ways Windows has emulated the Mac OS over the
years, I was wondering how, if at all, OSX has taken on any of XP's
features.
Windows XP has no DOS code in it, thats why it's one of the most reliable platforms.longhorn will change pc's... it's been written from the ground up,
so no more DOS, and hello 6bit support
i've never got on with Mac OS 10 - the printer support sucked..
I have to disagree there, i use Panther and i can't get drivers that work properly for me. HP1700D , Samsung 1710 and an HP 6100, which is high level injket, low level laser, and office level GP printer. The printer support for OSX is very good on the whole with most USB
printers supported, I have used 7 different printers, inkjets &
laser and have yet to find a problem(like most printer problems are
user problems specific to their machines)
I find your post very strange I use the printer (HP) you mention and have NO problems in Panther in fact The printer support is WAY better than Jaguar IMHO.I have to disagree there, i use Panther and i can't get driversThe printer support for OSX is very good on the whole with most USB

Also half the perphirals i have usb or otherwise, have no OSX
versions either, which is what i'd expect.
Sorry i keep calling Panther, Jaguar, i'm using Panther too, I spent an hour looking for the wrong disks the other dayI find your post very strange I use the printer (HP) you mention

i have a couple of firewire drives that don't work properly and none of my GPS's are supported, my bluetooth adapters arent support, nor ar any of my cellphones.Have you tried any of the free printer driver utilities like the
GIMP??
All my USB/Firewire perirals work fine( I must be lucky)
Sounds like it.there again I could just be lucky!
Hmm i will search for it, i thought it was supposed to install them all by defaultCharlie,
The driver you want is on the Panther Install disk (2 i think)
yeah most of your devices are either HID or storage class and don't usually require drivers.I don't have a mobile or bluetooth but mainly use the Macs for
Photo manipulation in my studio, hence why i have card readersand
printers.
i haven't it says its doesnt support my printer, again just the 1600, i'll give it a go though thanksDid you try GIMP Print??
HP, Epson Canon etc are only interested in $$$$ try
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/index.php3
On OSX thats not hard to believeMuch better than HPs drivers!!!
No I said that XP is NOT BASED on DOS(unlike Win9x)no DOS with XP u say?
to run it in a emulated window!START> Run> Command..
WTF??????why should anyone have to PAY to get better printer support??
This is a problem with YOU and your tech ability!!!!!!!!!!!!!!just the other day i had to change a design because the PDF i
produced for a client wouldn't print edge-edge on their Epson Photo
Printer under OS X (which is edge-edge out of the box on windows)
all DIFFERENT MAKES!!!!! (NONE OF WHICH ARE 64bit)!!and 600,000 units is nothing to the millions of PC's sold..
Yes Linux (do you use it?) what version of photoshop works on it?there are other OS's that support 64bit CPU's on the PC..
This doesn't run any 32bit software so whats your point??there also used to be a 64bit version of NT for DEC Alpha's.
was just commenting on improved printer support in the l8st OS..WTF??????why should anyone have to PAY to get better printer support??
Never paid a penny for printer support( gimp print is free open
source)
i know how to use my applications been using them for over 11 years - i'm not the one trying to print from OS X which wouldn't allow edge-edge printing with the drivers supplied with the OS.. (was even in the manual)This is a problem with YOU and your tech ability!!!!!!!!!!!!!!just the other day i had to change a design because the PDF i

Try -Print -save as PDF or use Adobe distiller( it's not good
enough to just save as PDF in Photoshop)!!
i'm sure quite a few of them are 64Bit...all DIFFERENT MAKES!!!!! (NONE OF WHICH ARE 64bit)!!and 600,000 units is nothing to the millions of PC's sold..
did i say anything about Photoshop?Yes Linux (do you use it?) what version of photoshop works on it?there are other OS's that support 64bit CPU's on the PC..
why run 32Bit apps on a 64Bit OS?This doesn't run any 32bit software so whats your point??there also used to be a 64bit version of NT for DEC Alpha's.
DEC Alpha machines were advertised for 3D Workstations, which work wonderfully under 64BitCan you Run it on a PC? if Not what relevance does it have apart
from in a server environment????
I note also there is a XP 64 for the Itanium (also will only run
32bit under emulation)
ALSO for SERVERS ONLY
As a Pro Photographer I use OSX and XP both are excellent tools for
the job

according to the Register 3,150 Opteron workstations have been sold since Junei'm sure quite a few of them are 64Bit...all DIFFERENT MAKES!!!!! (NONE OF WHICH ARE 64bit)!!and 600,000 units is nothing to the millions of PC's sold..
No, but surely you want to run software on your machine???did i say anything about Photoshop?Yes Linux (do you use it?) what version of photoshop works on it?there are other OS's that support 64bit CPU's on the PC..
Well this is a no brainer if you like me have $4000 worth of 32bit software and buy a new 64bit machine/OS you would like to run it wouldn't you??why run 32Bit apps on a 64Bit OS?This doesn't run any 32bit software so whats your point??there also used to be a 64bit version of NT for DEC Alpha's.
But Its not a PC unless it executes x86 code NATIVELYDEC Alpha machines were advertised for 3D Workstations, which workCan you Run it on a PC? if Not what relevance does it have apart

tho' Adobe didn't support it for very long..

since June
most with 32bit WinXP pro how is this a 64bit x86 revolution?
Intel won't even commit to a x86 64bit in the forseeable future
No, but surely you want to run software on your machine???did i say anything about Photoshop?Yes Linux (do you use it?) what version of photoshop works on it?there are other OS's that support 64bit CPU's on the PC..
I mean my reason for not using linux is Not ONE of the programs is
supported on that OS!!
Well this is a no brainer if you like me have $4000 worth of 32bitwhy run 32Bit apps on a 64Bit OS?This doesn't run any 32bit software so whats your point??there also used to be a 64bit version of NT for DEC Alpha's.
software and buy a new 64bit machine/OS you would like to run it
wouldn't you??
Or should I wait 2-3 years for all that software to get ported? and
give up my business!!
But Its not a PC unless it executes x86 code NATIVELYDEC Alpha machines were advertised for 3D Workstations, which workCan you Run it on a PC? if Not what relevance does it have apart

Is a DEC Alpha a PC because it can Run x86 code under JVM emulation?
IF so A G4 is a PC 'cos it can run Windows XP under the same system
What do you call a PC BOB???
is it anything that is not a Mac?
At current time the only PCs that are 64bit are Opteron,FX, or
PPC970 based
and PPC outsells the Oppie many fold

Goodthe borderless print option is a driver issue with Epson Printers...
i believe that they've now been fixed in the latest revision of the
drivers..
