Well, I upgraded to Windows XP this morning and now (of course) my Microtech USB Cameramate (and, hence, my IBM Microdrive) no longer work. According to their website, Microtech has no WinXP drivers available.
I just bought this damn thing!!
Questions:
  • anybody else in this fix?
  • any recommendations for a card reader that DOES work?
Thanks

Have you tried the Win 2000 driver? Most Windows 2000 drivers are supposed to work with XP.

I'm in the same fix. I spent about $80 for it too! My old SANDISK IMAGEMATE USB works...

I'll try the Win 2000 drivers ... nothing to lose at this point.
However, another wierd thing:

I have an HP Photosmart 1000 printer which I bought this summer -- of course, it doesn't work either (even after installing HP XP drivers), BUT ...

when I insert the IBM MD in the printer's PC Card slot, Windows XP immediately sees it and I am able to download my Canon D-30 raw files to my hard disk. The bad news is that it took 30 minutes to move the files!!! Go figure.

Anyway, I'm off to buy an XP-compatible card reader (NOT Microtech). I'm sure all these XP problems can be solved in the usual way -- by draining vast amounts of money from our bank accounts to the hardware/software industry.

After upgrading I tried the same thing, but was unable to get it to work.

During the installation, I got a message that the driver was not tested for Windows XP, but I continued the install, then my system crashed.

What version of the driver did you install?

Thanks
Arnie
The Windows 2000 drivers for the Microtech USB CameraMate card
reader work under Windows XP.
Thanks for the tip. All hail Microtech!

HI!

I think the simplest solution for the troubles like that is just to keep TWO operating systems on your computer =) You can have both W2k and WXP on the same computer. That's not the best way from many pionts of view but that's seems to me a simplest way.
