Windows XP - general comments

This may have been brought up before in another thread, but I would like to see XP have some basic "manipulation" features built-in. I find that I must crop or adjust the brightness/contrast/color on about 90% of the photos that I print (just snapshots - I'm not a professional). By not having these features, it will force me to use another program (Thumbs+), which I will inevitably use to print.

So, I think for most people, the lack of these basic features will mean they will not be using the "Print Wizard". The "Scanner and Camera Wizard" will come in very handy, however.
The previous Windows XP thread got very large, I'd like to section
off general Windows XP quesitons from the conversations/suggestions
about digital imaging. Please use this thread to continue

Rick...I was wondering if XP will let you print the contents of any
folder...For example...I have hundreds of mp3 files in many
different folders...And I would love to be able to print all the
file names in any particular folder...In Win98 there doesn't seem
to be any way of printing the contents of any folder. Will this
feature be in XP?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

Maybe XP can't do it, but PowerDesk can. It works great for printing MP3 File names. You can download a free trial version of PowerDesk 4 at http://www.ontrack.com/freesoftware/ .

Once you have loaded the program, go to the folder where your MP3 files are. Click on the top MP3 file and while holding the shift key down, click on the last one to highlight all of them. Go to the top toolbar, select Edit, then click on "Copy Name as Text."

Once you have done that, go to your word processor top toolbar, click on Edit then Paste and all the files you selected are on your word document, ready for printing. You will love PowerDesk. It is a great program. Ken

Sorry I've been so late in responding. You will need to download Canon's WIA driver (not TWAIN) to get it to work properly w/the Scanner & Camera wizard. From what I understand, the Windows ME driver works on Windows XP as well.

Rick, I have now had a chance to try out the Digital Camera Wizard
you wrote. I like it a lot. XP doses not seam to see my G1 as a
camera. I’ve been downloading with Zoom Browser, which works fine.
Do I need to load the Canon twain driver besides the default
install of the camera software?

Thanks for the feedback Gary. I'm glad to hear it's working well for you. That wizard is my invididual contribution to Windows XP. :-)
Two nights ago installed XP RC2. I spent last night testing the
printing wizard against Photoshop, QImage (demo), and PhotoDeluxe
(I use this to print multiple different prints on the same page). I
had everything set to use ICM profiles. There was absolutely no
difference in color or print quality! You guys did a great job. I
can wait to get the final release.

MSC == "Mass Storage Class"

What that means is that your camera will appear to Windows XP as a hard drive. The Autoplay dialog should appear, and you can choose to run the "Scanner & Camera Wizard" with it. This will get you pretty much the same experience as a digital camera that has a WIA driver for it. You can and should also install the TWAIN driver to get support for the S1Pro in your imaging applications.

Rick,

I posted a comment yesterday about WinXP RC2 not recognizing my
FujiFilm FinePix S1Pro. However, the WinXPHardware.txt file dated
08/06/01 which has a link pointing to it at
http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/ includes the following line under the
"Imaging" section:

Fujifilm FinePix S1 Pro (MSC)

As this camera connects as a USB device, why doesn't "USB" appear
in the parentheses instead of "MSC," and what does "MSC" stand for
anyway? Perhaps I am missing something here and I would appreciate
any assistance you may be able to provide.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the feedback. We will consider these features for the next version on Windows XP. As an aside, the Photo Printing Wizard will automatically crop as needed to print out.
