Why, oh why, isn't there a good matching flash for LX3?

There's one (used) on that auction site at the moment (search for "targus dl20"). The Olympus/Panasonic version works on the LX-3 as well as on the cameras listed.

Hiya BIG BLOKE

I'm big too, but I don't flash~! Oops!

When I bought my FL36 used off eBay, it came with the diffuser. Excellent.

I'm not criticizing the way the FL36 works or its power -- just its size. Sure a flash with a certain amount of power must be a certain size, but not this big for this much power. As I said at the outset, the Kodak P20 is much smaller and lighter, and is even a touch more powerful. AND it can work in conjunction with the pop-up flash too.

Panasonic out to be thinking along the P20 lines for a more compact flash that provides an ideal match for the LX3/5, G1, G10, etc. Obviously, these smaller, more compact cameras are going to be a strong direction for the future.

So they should give me the flash I want NOW~! LOL :D

Here's a test of direct flash of the Targus on an LX-3, lens at wide and tele, aspect ratios 16:9 and 4:3.

If the Olympus FL14 will work on the Olympus line, it will surely be OK for Panasonic. Might be worth a further look.....
The Olympus FL14 works great for me. I had it already for my Olympus E-P2 and it has TTL that works with the LX5. The size is perfect on the LX5 and the results are very satisfactory.

Thanks for the flash wall pics!

Bah ... those wall photos look horrible @24mm
I suppose the Targus DL20 has fixed light dispersion at around 40mm ?

There's no zooming on the Targus. If you need to cover 24mm evenly with direct flash, you'll have to find something else. As I mentioned, I never use the flash in direct mode anyway. Then again, I don't have subjects at the edges of the frame, so I doubt I'd be bothered even if I did use it like that.
