I am surprised that the ears and back part of the pumpkn face are so out of focus. I was expecting a lot less bokeh. I am enjoying this 1.8 25mm. Makes my next lens choice interesting though. I also posted a sample of this on open talk.

I think you're referring to depth of field. Bokeh is the subjective quality of out of focus areas.

Thanks for the correction.

It just requires setting up the shot for it and work within the possibilities that the format and the lenses used offer.

M43 affords us a deep DOF too which is just as much of a boon, something people seem to forget all too easily.

does seem 'shallow' or 'short' is often left out.
i feel like the terms are changing... use of them, anyway.

adamandbean did accept the correction in use of the word 'bokeh', but i see it used so much to mean depth of field that i think the general meaning will change..

like some words continue to mean a thing in some fields or circumstances but popularly mean something else. i could think of an example but i woke up at 2a and couldn't get back to sleep. too many Reece cups last night. going to be a hard day...

as another mentioned, setting up is a good thing.

i took the suggestion to mean keeping background distance from subject in mind. as you likely know, close focus distance means.. shorter depth of field :^)

trying to have other interesting subjects a little farther from the same plane can help them be more out of focus.

portrait at Christmas with tree for background can have a more oof tree if grandma is sitting a few feet or more in front/away. amount of tree and/or any other background around grandma can be controlled with focal length.

I get the terms mixed up or I am guilty of mixing them together. Thanks again,

I did not!

Moreover, it is very easy, almost unavoidable,

when you do close-ups
