Which GPU should I upgrade to

Please help me choose a new graphics card for my MSI 2390 Ace motherboard. Currently I am running an Nvidia GTX 1080 which doesn't meet Adobe's requirements for photo editing in Lightroom anymore.
The Lightroom requirements are minimum 4GB VRAM (8GB preferred) and DirectX 12 support. The GTX 1080 matches those requirements, and it's a decent GPU. What doesn't work for you?

If you want a noticeable improvement in GPU performance you'll need to go up to a 3xxx/4xxx series - like a 3070 or better. It'll cost a few hundred dollars if you go with a new GPU.
An RTX 2060 12GB might be worthwhile as well. Newegg has refurbs for less than $200.
I should have done that when I got the 1080, but at this point I'll probably go for something like the 4070. Many thanks.
Just make sure you've got a decent power supply in your PC as well. Those newer cards be thirsty!

Maybe you didn't read the whole thread.

The OP says that he has a 1000W PSU. Should be adequate for most cards, although I'd want more if I had a 600W variant of the RTX 4090 plus a CPU that consumes a lot of power.

4xxx series cards don't consume much more power than the GTX 1080 he has.

My Pc is a Ryzen 3700X + 32GB. I recently replaced my GTX 1650 4GB with RTX 4070 12GB, cost me around 600 euro. When running Topaz Denoise, or more demanding tasks in C1, it's like I have a totally new computer :)

No need to thank me, just make sure your PSU can handle it, replace it if it's older than 5 years and a lower end model, no point in spending $1000 on a gpu if the power supply is failing :)

yeah, just read the OP. 1000W is more than enough :)

Is your power supply adequate for a which upgrade?

greg
It is an EVGA 1000W power supply. Should be adequate?
Adequate for anything, including one of the 600W RTX 4090 models.

You don't mention the exact model, but I imagine that it has multiple PCI-E 8 pin power cables.

If you can afford an RTX 4070 or better, I presume you'd get a major performance boost.
Thanks, Bob, much appreciated!

Please help me choose a new graphics card for my MSI 2390 Ace motherboard. Currently I am running an Nvidia GTX 1080 which doesn't meet Adobe's requirements for photo editing in Lightroom anymore. It still works, but Lr slows down considerably when I get some local edits and masking going. I think it is the low amount of V Ram that it is lacking.

This MSI board uses an Intel Z390 Chipset. For GPU it just says Multi-GPU and Supports 2-way NVIDIA SLI Technology. So being older technology now, what is the best graphics card I could get to replace my GTX 1080? Thank you.
You definitely want to use a GPU with the Tensor Cores (RTX-xxxx) if you are going Nvidia. Adobe has optimized for those in the masking, noise reduction, and other processing. I use an RTX-3060, and it works well. A bit older, but plenty of memory and Tensor Cores.
Good to know, thanks a bunch.

You could save a bunch of money and not use Adobe. Much better solution.
A $250 GPU is well worth the investment. Other modernn SW benefits from it as well. And I haven't found a better package of Lightroom & Photoshop for $120 per year that's better. Actually, even close to what I get from Adobe.
How do you get both photoshop and lightroom for 120 a year? Best I could find is 311.00 per year for both.

Amen to that, and thank you for speaking up!

The RTX-3060 - 12 GB version seems to work well enough for me. Big upgrade from the GTX-1660s.
And probably a bigger upgrade from my GTX 1080, wouldn't you think?

The Photo plan with 20GB of cloud storage is $12.99CDN.

The $25.99CDN plan is for 1TB of cloud storage.

The US price for the 20GB photo plan is $9.99. (Adobe charges me Connecticut sales tax as well, so it's $10.62.)

Where is the option for the 20gb plan. I never saw it on their website. That's not so bad. Just not seeing it when I went into look. Not that I am going to be going to adobe. But they should make that easier to see.

Try this link. When you hit their pricing page, you need to click on the "See all pricing and plans" link.

https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/plans.html?filter=photography&plan=individual&filter=photography

They have 2 9.99 plans.. one with just lightroom and 1TB storage, the other with 20GB and a set of Creative Cloud apps.

To find the 20GB plan, you may have to hunt a little.

Adobe Creative Cloud Plans, Pricing, and Membership

If I was cynical, I'd accuse Adobe of trying to hide it well enough to make people sign up for the 1TB Cloud plan. (Without hiding the 20GB plan altogether, or not offering it at all.)
