I see all kinds of flash setups on the forum and people are getting amazing results. I have the great camera (707) and the awesome flash (promaster 5750). Now all I need (this week, lol) is a good flash bracket that will allow me to get the flash off the top of the lense and also to flip for nice portrait shots. I have read about the stroboframe quick flip, but was wondering which flash brackets folks on STF would recommend.

Thanks in advance for your help :-D

Hi Lisa

I would be interested as well. All the flash grips I have seen so far look rather weird extending out from the middle of the lens barrel.

ooops forgot to type before...an elderly moment I suppose.

I am also interested in a reasonably priced not very big brackett. Problem is with the 717 you need your left hand to adjust focus etc on the lense.

I got an ideal design for 19.00 because it it is adjustable, but it was made very cheap and It is also a left handed flash. If I could find an adjustable flash (it straightens or goes back to l position by clicks and locks) I'd love it.

I have an old one but it raises the flash almost 2 feet over the cam and that just isn't necessary for my needs.

copy-n-pasted from my old posts. A little expensive if you don't have one already but a very nice bracket. Sorry no pics but I'll borrow a camera if
anyone is interested...

Son
turns out my Newton bracket for the Nikon fits the F717 great!!!
If you have one, remove the baseplate and connecting plate and bolt
the "flip" part of the bracket directy to the F717. Very nice and
compact as if it was made for the F717 :-).

forgot to add: use the big round knob w/ the bolt and add a small rubber > gasket between the body and bracket and a washer above the between > bolt and bracket, then fit is purrfect...

Hi Lisa,

In my experience, the most basic L-shaped bracket will give you the best results.

With this attached bracket I've shot at least 300 weddings, and had not have any kind of trouble.

Enjoy photography, Yehuda

Lisa,

I just recieved this small bracket. I will post pictures of it mounted on my 717 in a day or so. It is really light and compact. It also flips for portrait shots.

I also use a cheap L bracket and a $40.00 Stratos 1035 which flips and is built like a tank and is 10 inchs tall. I'll put up a bunch of pics in a day or so, as my UZI and 717 are at two different locations and I think mirror shots would not be best.

Isabel .. I realize it's personal preference but I think you have the camera mounted the "wrong" direction. The way you have it suspends the rear of the camera which will put pressure on the hinge connecting the lens and the base. If you turn it the other way the base is supported a nothing is left suspended. I guess you also have it this way because it's more comfortable for you to hold.

What do you think ??

Hi Lisa,

It's a Japanese-made Hakura brand folding stainless steel bracket with swiveling shoe (front to back about 45 degrees either way).

It's not as good as another (black) Hakura bracket I just bought which is larger and has a full 360 degrees rotating swiveling ball-mounted shoe that lets me change from landscape to portrait configuration almost instantly like the Stroboflip.

It's also less complicated looking than the Stroboflip. I'll post a pic of that one when I've decided what to do with my Pbase account and when I have uploaded some more pictures somewhere...

I'm not sure if these are available to you in the States but if you're ever passing by in this part of the world, let me know and I'll bring you to a couple of places.

Hey Ken, that's pretty neat! If only they had it in sliver for the F717 or the grey magnesium alloy of the F707 too!

Not a Rebe. I was a married student in Jerusalem, and had somehow to survive while I was studying. For 3 years in a row I had barely a vacant evening without some event to photograph. I could write a book about my experiences there. Memories, memories...

My brackets lost most of its black metal finish, as a result of that very extensive use, and is embelished with some other battle scars. Memories, memories...

It gives me nowadays the same excellent service it gave me 40 years ago. Memories, memories...

Regards, Yehuda
