Brusselton, north east England, this is a tiny hamlet of 7 cottages however it was the start of the world's first passenger journey in 1825 (as in that's where the passengers first boarded). The train free wheeled down the hill before starting the Darlington to Stockton bit, which is usually acknowledged as the first part.
The Engine House on the plaque is still there (it too is a house) although the chimney has gone, I live in the engineman's cottage next door. The line has gone but many of the stone blocks still remain in the ground which the rails were fixed to, pre sleepers times, that's them in the snow
This area is one of the 'cradles' of the railways.
