I don't know if this poll has been conducted before but if it has, it is probably out of date.

Since joining these forums in September 2019, I have sensed that the majority of active members are probably from North America.

Not that it matters where a member is from, but curiosity has got the better of me.

I will start the ball rolling. I am from Melbourne Australia.

Options are in alphabetical order.
Why that extra mentioning of Russia and the UK? Both are nicely covered under the 'Europe' category.
the U.K. have left Europe
Maybe politically, but not geographically, and that is what it is about here.

Just like Russia hasn't joined the European Union politically, but has always been part of Europe geographically.

It's like offering a box for 'USA' and then two more, one for the biggest state of the US and one for a relatively small one.

U.K. is an island that isn’t geographically part of Europe. It even has a different time zone .

... while we're on the subject, can I just say that it's annoying when reading a thread, to click on somebody's name to find out where they're from, only to find that they have not apparently bothered to supply this info when creating their account.
If you're curious you can ask about it in a post.
I wonder if DPR staff can make this item mandatory?
No, it should never be mandatory.

It has the same time zone as Portugal.

Might as well lump Canada and USA together under North America. And then Australia and New Zealand as Antipodes. Or just make it Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. Or...

In reality, I think if you want to see the real geographic split, you need to separate Europe into its constituent countries. You cannot compare (say) Finland to Greece: the geography is different, the climate is different, the economy is different, and... the people are different.

Vive la différence :-)

Savannah, I agree 100% and one of the things I've always liked about this site is interacting with people from other countries and seeing images from other countries.

It's really a shame that an international forum doesn't ask people to at least list the country they live in.

I can understand people wanting to keep as much personal information about themselves private but not listing your country seems ridiculous.

Naturally, because this is the Internet and these forums are full of immature people, there is no guarantee people would be honest about where they're from. :-(

I've always considered the UK as part of Europe but I know there's a lot of disagreement about this because of the fact that they are located off the coast of mainland Europe.

Just the same, I don't think this has much to do with the UK leaving the European Union but I could be wrong about this.

I'm surprised by the large number of Australians considering the relatively small population compared to the other choices in question. Partly it's because this is an English language site but that doesn't explain the large discrepancy between Canada and Australia because Canada has 12 million more people. Must be photography is a popular hobby there.
Aussie speaking: I would explain that by the weather. In just about all places in Australia it is possible to get around easily at any time of the year. The free and easy lifestyle and no severe winter weather (it only snows a little in very few areas) just means more time for an out and about activity like photography.

Plus the minimum wage situation originally intended that everyone gains a "living wage" means more money for interests instead of simply surviving.

In all the countries I have visited I would vote Japan as by far the most camera crazy country, but of course we don't see that here, except by knowing where most of our gear is designed.

Regards.... Guy (78 years an Aussie)

Not fair to people who want to remain anonymous.
And that is the whole problem of the Internet.

It should have been designed so that there is no anonymity.

Are you from Earth?
No, from a galaxy far, far, far, far away
Than it has to be Antarctica?

Not Europe or Asia, not Australia, Africa, or Americas...

Maybe a small island country?

I am just kidding, of course ;)

But seriously, it would help understanding the posters and answering some questions if we new the country or the region they are from.
Why? Does physics change in different locations? Are A7r4's different in other places?
Those who choose not to show their country in their profile - what are your reasons?
Should be obvious they consider it none of your business, some people choose to live privately .

There is nothing valid about this survey to conclude other than I'm wasting a little time while I'm doing laundry. :-)

Not physics, but prices, retailers, product availability, etc.

And A7R4 and lenses and accessories will be priced differently, and menus may be in different languages...

Understandable... Maybe some are afraid they will be stereotyped based on their location or nationality? I can certainly understand that.

I don't think OP intended this survey to be valid - just for fun.

Interesting poll. Thanks.

I can see the argument for breaking down Europe, but can also understand leaving it grouped. Interesting either way. When I was in high school with world geography and history classes the Soviet Union (and Russia) were not considered part of Europe. But I guess times change and maybe that had something to do with the politics of the day.

Anyhow, me personally? About 50 miles south of Amarillo, Texas. Grew up here, got out just as fast as I could after I finished school. Forty years later my family needed help and my employer was laying people off -- I wound up right back where I started, but with a lot better attitude about it.

A lot more "non-photography" threads have been getting deleted lately, but while this one is still here, add me to America.
