What image tank do you use?

If you are thinking about getting the tripper - you can build yourself an external battery pack that extends the battery life considerably (3 or 4x)

I've made my own external battery pack using these instructions vorks very well (I use 4 1.2V rechargable AA's not 4 1.5V alkaline to make sure I keep the voltage within the output range of the supplied DC power pack)

Hope this helps

Also, anyone know why the 40gb version costs less than the 30gb
version?

Looking for a good image tank solution that can understand raws and
has a very fast (USB2 or FW) read speed from the inserted CF.
Hopefully it would also be flash upgradeable to support the
upcoming 1Dmk2 .CR2 format. Discuss!

Thanks.. although not too worried about battery time.. Looking to basically be able to 1 or 2 downloads a day and be able to recharge overnight.

BUT, seeing as you have a Tripper, is there anything that would obstruct insertion of a memory card adapter into the CF slot (ie. a door that needs to close or somesuch)? If there's nothing in the way of an adapter being able to plug in and stick out, I'll have a partial answer to feasability of a SD card adapter working.

Flashtrax sells a Media adapter too -- wish I could find someone who's tried this...

No, there is nothing obstructing it. Its just a slot - no door, so an adapter should work easliy.

My laptop is about 2 years old now. Didn't have Firewire. I added it using an Adaptec PCMICA (CardBus) adapter. Works great. It is called Adaptec FireConnect for Notebooks.

Hi,

I prefer the all-stainless steel ones....

Sorry. Couldn't resist. ;)

Seriously, though, I use an IBM X30 notebook PC for this function.
It has an 80 GB drive, so there's a lot of space. My main
processing machine is an IBM A31p (dual 80 GB drives), but the X30
get used a lot since it's smaller and lighter.

I use an X31 laptop, small, 12" lcd, built-in, I said, BUILT-IN CF card reader, firewire and USB 2 ports, wireless lan, good speed, light package. See if I only had a image tank it would be hard to view and make judgements about deleting some shots like you can with a laptop. When I travel and need to take the laptop, I do some editing/deleting on the road instead of waiting to get back home to do the whole load of raw shots.

I have a laptop too, but I'm not gonna have one at my disposal when i'm out at trackside needing to flush my cards out. I need something I can put in my vest and dump while out in the field.

I had a Mindstor for less than two months when it died on me. I sent it back and they repaired it free, I liked the verify function and it was fairly fast with my 512 cards. After reading negative stories about it while it was out being fixed, I bought a Image Tank X drive II. It has worked flawlessly so far. But I miss the verify function. (I sold the Mindstor when it came back).

My family likes the built-in multi card slots, they all dumped their holiday pictures in it. Of course, I had to burn what they took to CD and mail it to them :[

I am looking forward to see how these boxes evolve over the next few years. They are a great inexpensive idea and fill a storage solution niche.

Dumping a full image tank to your PC/Mac is very slow!!!
