What Camera if you could have anything?

'ang on guv'nor, there are 22 comments on NSLRT at 1130 EST,
( exactly the same as here at FSLRT ), but they did not start until
you mentioned that they had not started ;-)

I think your question has elicited two types of response :

1/ the dream, non-existent camera
2/ any camera currently available on the market

For me, I would like any Fuji sensor of more than 6MP in a nice pro body
when such exists. I would settle for an 8+8 sensor for less than $2K :-)

For now, amongst available models, I would take the Canon iDs Mk II,
with 16MP, for landscapes.

I believe that there is a gap in Nikon's lineup, betw the D200 and D2X.
Nikon has filled up its prosumer/enthusiast selection very nicely, and is
no doubt seeing the profits rolling in, but needs a pro model of the same
calibre of the 5D . . . The D2x is a wonderful camera, but its bulk and
its noise issues may have held it back.

OK, now there could be 23 FSLRT comments here, Gary

Forget the cost, what camera would get tomorrow if price were not a
factor? (and it was in stock:)

What is your dream camera?
The S5 Pro, of course, with the Super EBC coated APO Macro Fujinon 40-105 mm f1.7 lens (60-160mm equivalent) .

Of course, the lens does not exist yet.

Well a nice 645 back with a Fujifilm 45x60 SuperCCD V to go on the Contax 645 or Hassy digital bodies. Probably should stay with Hassy since Fuji will be grinding and coating the glass so they may get the best match to the sensor.

That may hold until the Fuji Full Frame SuperCCD X sensors are available in 4x5 and 8x10 view camera backs. Computer technology may have to catch up to those though.

.....Gary ,
Hi Gentlemen, and Ladies of course,

I'd like to have a Fuji S5mod FF with 12 mb R and 12 mb S pixels and with an even bigger buffer and processing speed.

If I could have a camera like that then I really would stop complaining about Nikon lugging behind Canon. A camera like that would serve 98 % of the work that I do. For the remainig 2% I would use my old Sinar 4x5.

Since the abovbe-mentioned Fuji does not exist I would carry on with the S5 supplemented with a Canon 1 Ds Mark II and a Phase One P45 on a Hasselblad.

The Fuji woud be for all the fun, the Canon for general work where FF and WA TS lenses are needed, the Hasselblad - Phase One combo for top end work.

It is good to daydream sometimes isn't it?

Regards to all,
AIK
