I am getting unexpected shutter count results for my a6500 using a couple of online shutter count web sites (shuttercounter (dot) com/ and camerashuttercount (dot) com and shuttertool (dot) com)

Is there a more "official" way to get shutter count?

Firstly, a photo taken around May of 2018 has a shutter count that is significantly HIGHER (around 40,500) than one taken 7 months or so later in December of 2018 (around 6,500).

I have only evern had one a6500, and all the sites confirm that it was shot with an a6500. I have never sent the camera in for repair.

I don't know if this matters, but since the camera has been unused for a long time, the internal battery must have drained too low because I have had to reset the time and date a few times.

I started shooting with a Panasonic in about May of 2021, and when I just tried taken a shutter count today using those online tools, it ssays the shutter count is about 140,000 actuations. That seems REALLy high because although I did use the a6500 from the end of 2018 up to about May of 2021, I thought the shutter count was a lot lower.

Unfortunately, one of my hard drives died so I am missing a bunch of the ARW files from the start of 2019 till mid-May 2021.

Anyway, just wondering if there is a more official way to get a shutter count or not.

Thanks in advance.

Try this one, it seems to agree with the number I believe I have taken with my A6500.

Thanks for the link. I tried it and compared with some of the other online tools and they all came out to 124,655 actuations.

This still seems VERY HIGH to me. It could be correct, but I really do think that there is something weird going on.

The real weird thing is how I have some photos that were taken LATER than others but have a lower shutter actuation count (as alluded to in my first post).

I have heard other A6500 users having problems getting a correct shutter count but don't know why.

You could also try RawDigger. You can download a trial version from here:

As the name suggests you need to use a raw image. Look at the EXIF information and towards the end of the list you will find shutter count.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried it out and it gave me the same shutter count of 124,655 actuations

(Don't know why, but Raw Digger gives three different shutter count fields, namely, "Shutter Count, Shutter Count 2, Shutter Count 3,"). Don't know why there are three of them. They all do agree on the 124,655 actuations.

Now, despite all the evidence, before I am CONVINCED that this is the actual shutter count, I have to figure out why a photo taken in November of 2018 would have a far HIGHER shutter count (42,507) than a photo taken a month later in December of 2018 (6725).

Maybe the date on the camera was set wrong???
