Weekly Macro/Close-up thread - last for 2010

Thanks Fabian. Try catching one and holding it still for a while. Locusts are everywhere at the moment and not hard to find. I caught this one, held it still for a while then placed it gently on the ground. Got a couple of shots in before it flew away.
cheers,
peter

Marvellous shots Wilba. You got the hang of this lens very quikly.
Thanks. I'm not doing much different to what I've done before, except f/16 seems safe for diffraction, unlike my other gear. E-TTL works much better with the MP-E.

The mpe is really sharp, but i found f/16 to be loosing sharpness of the images significantly. Even f/10 is significantly softer than f/6.3 that i have used a couple of times. Although it is not so apparent on the lower MP cameras. The 50D and 7D with high MP had problems, but now im back to 10MP :D

Back as in a different camera or lower mp on ones you have ?
Sorry , just did the exif and was taken on a 450D .

Have you tried the lower mp's on the 7D and 50D ? Since the mp-e is manual and no IS , would the 7D and 50D take better shots ? At least at higher ISO's , you could keep the F stop around F 8 .

I currently have the 1D mkIII. I used to have the 50D and 7D. Changing to the lower MP i think would have the similar result as viewing the high MP picture at a lower magnification, so you dont see the softening effects.

Best thing to do, i found is use a wider aperture and be careful where you focus . :)
