Web Design Software

I gave Frontpage a try. It seems fairly easy to use. Took out a
book from the Library. My question is what is with all the
subfolders it creates in
MyDocuments\MyWebs ?? Do you not lose track of all the files when
ftp-ing the files to your webspace?
Actually, the other poster is right, but FP also puts those subfolders on your web space as well.

Those subfolders can cause problems if you delete them or they get marked READ ONLY.

For me this is the one drawback of the software so far. I am more comfortable ftp_ing so all these folders for publishing are just a nuisance. I should be able to force all the webs content into one folder where I can see all the relevant files for ftp_ing shouldn't I ?
Is GoLive or Dreamweaver that much more complicated??

That would depend on your FTP software, most will let you send a large number of files in subdirectories and skip files that don't need to be updated. Anyway, that is the best feature of FP is that you don't HAVE to ftp anything, if you aren't using that feature, then you really don't need FP.
I should be able to force all the webs content into one..
That would make it much more difficult to manage your site.
Is GoLive or Dreamweaver that much more complicated??
I can't say anything about GoLive, but if you are an FTP lover, then Dreamweaver is for you. It is just as easy to use and there are not restrictions on directories as there are in FP. Plus it does the ftp for you.

Although I used Dreamweaver to create my website I´m sure that any
other software will do.
Yes, that is true. I've used both Dreamweaver and Frontpage, but I've converted comletely over to Dreamweaver for the stuff I get paid for. FP was giving me way too many problems. (Such as not being able to add a file to a directory and have FP notice it was there easily.)
Most important to get the work done is an automatic webgallery
function like in PS6.
Love that function. Takes a little HTML knowledge to make it really look nice, but once you've done that it is great.

I sincerely thank all who gave me tips on this post of mine.

I am still coming to terms with FP 2002. I have a bigger site coming up in a few weeks with friendlier navigation, more images, hopefully even faster download (thanx to CSS) etc.

Till then I've got a trial site up now. Do take a look and give my your valuable inputs.

Best regards. Sincerely.
