Video Editing Software

Last edited:
Hi all:

Is there any new entrant into the low-cost bracket for video editing software under Win10?

I have older SW that is not very easy to use, and is not very capable.

My needs are minimal -- mostly just cutting out clips from a long video and "splicing" them together. Decent transitions would be a help.

How do I ask a question about using Oneshot Video editor? Sorry to jump into a previous thread. I don't see how to start a new one?

Go up one level to the PC Talk forum, and you will see "New Thread"

As far as I can tell, Oneshot is a game, not a video editor.

Yes, try OpenShot

Surely all video editors are games, with goals and challenges to get past. I'm still looking at how to optimise a slo-mo in Resolve 16 to get past the Troll on Level 12 (or maybe it just feels that way...)

On OpenShot maybe start on YouTube:

I have used OpenShot, but not ShotCut, which some recommend instead.

In the end, I use mostly ffmpeg to trim videos because the -copy parameter prevents quality loss. Trimming is mostly to get them past email size limits. I'm not a video guy. It is time consuming and the audience is miniscule.

Since I wrote my comments in late 2018, I have moved on to the free version of DaVinci Resolve. It really is quite powerful.

As for time and audience - yes it can be quite time consuming. But I wouldn't be doing it unless I had a decent audience. Right now I am heavily involved in making educational videos for a local "nature Club". With out that, I probably would be sticking to "simple" photography.
