I want to build a system for DaVinci resolve, and I will be shopping today from this store https://www.centrecom.com.au/.

I have tried to assemble some parts based on my best guess. The rest of the parts will be bought at a later date, is this list good enough in this budget or should I choose something else?

You need to define the problem better.

Resolve editing what? Codec? Resolution? Important stuff for work? Or just personal stuff that can be done slowly?

Depending on what you're editing and doing that setup is either low end capable or very frustrating not capable.

I will be using it to edit DJI Air 2S 10log footage.

Glancing around the web that seems it could be 264 or 265. FHD to above 4K.

FHD 264 you might be okay. The higher resolution especially in 265 will be more challenging.

Do you have a sample output? If you do go to the Resolve forum on the BlackMagic website and ask people how hard it will be to edit.

My current laptop is dell 7590 with 9th gen intel processor with 16Gb ram and 1TB samsung 970 SSD. It works fine with 4K footage from my mobile editing in Davinci resolve 17.

I thought I need better spec for DJI Air 2S footage.

Resolve is heavily dependant on your GPU. Especially the studio version.

The other issue is if you're doing 265 which is much better if you have hardware decoding. Nvidia hasn't updated their webpage to show what the 3050 can decode but it should be okay with 265 4.2.0. It's unlikely to do 4.2.2. If the log footage is 265 4.2.2 I doubt you'll find it easy going.

8GB of Vram is enough for 4K but that drone can do almost 6k can't it? If it can you might find that too low.

For high bitrate files you're better off with multiple NVME drives.

Like I said you'll get better answers on the Blackmagic forum. Somebody might already be working with that sort of file and can tell you where the bottlenecks are.

On another note, for lower spec systems, there are optimization settings and tricks you can use to make Resolve much more responsive. Do some youtube searches on it.

I am new to video editing, and I am curious what made you pick Resolve over Premier? Cost makes me gravitate towards DaVinci resolve, but I feel maybe Adobe subscription that I can't afford might be a better fit for a graphic designer like me :-(

Resolve is basically the standard for colour grading. So much so that many premiere users will round trip. Start a project in premiere before moving it to resolve for colour and then finally moving it all back.

That makes sense if you have spent years learning premiere but for new users the only reason to do that is if you have clients that require premiere projects or avid.

Cost--- it is available for free now even with 4K support

Ease of use --- at first it might look daunting but once you watch 2-3 tutorials you will be able to master it. Blackmagic official tutorials are awesome too

Media management--- Separate media page... kinda lightroom style.

Speed both working and system resource usage. If you buy the studio version, which is USD249 or something, a one-time licence and have even a moderate graphics card it helps you a lot.

On my good enough system I7 9th gen, 16GB ram Samsung SSD system premiere pro was like riding bicycle compared to Davinci resolve which is quite usable.

Davinci resolve is 4 (officially 3) programs within under one.

Media manager*

Davinci resolve the editor and Color tab (best/most professional coloring application)

Davinci resolve Fusion (good for beginner to expert animation)

Davinci Fairlight (audio editor)
