Do you object to being called British though you see yourself as English? My guess is, not as much as Scots or Welsh object to being called English. That's what I meant by Identity crisis, many English people are unsure whether they're English or British, and some are unclear about the difference between England and Britain (and for that matter the UK and GB). This isn't a problem Scottish, Welsh and Irish people generally have, even proud British Scots, Welsh and Irish.
by the way have you ever wrongly called a Canadian an American
Canadians are Americans, like Mexicans, Brazilians and Argentinians. They are not citizens of the United States of America. The Canadians I know don't object to being called Americans, they do object to the notion that all Americans come from the US.
For the record, I'm English, a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and happy that I'm also a citizen of the European Union.
