Do you object to being called British though you see yourself as English? My guess is, not as much as Scots or Welsh object to being called English. That's what I meant by Identity crisis, many English people are unsure whether they're English or British, and some are unclear about the difference between England and Britain (and for that matter the UK and GB). This isn't a problem Scottish, Welsh and Irish people generally have, even proud British Scots, Welsh and Irish.

Canadians are Americans, like Mexicans, Brazilians and Argentinians. They are not citizens of the United States of America. The Canadians I know don't object to being called Americans, they do object to the notion that all Americans come from the US.

For the record, I'm English, a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and happy that I'm also a citizen of the European Union.

Whenever I travel I have a little Canadian flag on my shirt hat or jacket. It saves me a lot of grief and aggravation. Few countries if any like the US citizens. Unfortunately we in this part of the world, North America, Central America and South America are all Americans but not all citizens of the US. For me it is worse than the Brits, the French, Germans, Italians or anyone there being called Europeans. They live in a country in the continent of Europe just as we live in a country in the continents of the Americas.

Now we have cases where Americans are parading as Canadians when abroad. There are actually kits available for that purpose which really upsets me to know that now I may be suspected of this fakery. I worry it could even cause me harm in Turkey, Egypt, Morocco or many other nations I love to visit.

You need to study a bit on your history. Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are not part of Great Britain by choice. Your country is England. Great Britain is a group of 4 countries 3 of whom are forced. Go talk to a Scot or Welshman to get their stories and stop spouting on their behalf. You have few supporters in the North and the Republic will have those 6 counties in Ulster Province back in the near future. You sound very much like a US American with your drivel. Perhaps you and Tony Blow are good buddies.

Does the west coast of America count as "the other side of the pond"? Seems like either way you go you have to cross a big ocean and a giant landmass.

The one thing we have here in Seattle are lots and lots of software developers. Many of them are unemployed at the moment and willing to work relatively cheap.

You have to understand that in the software industry, the term "resource" refers to a human being who develops software. Once in awhile it means equipment too, but for the most part they are referring to the human element. Having dpreview close to papa Amazon gives the parent much more control and allows resource sharing.

I feel bad for anyone who had to leave family and friends and move to the other side of the pond in order to stay employed during this wretched financial crises. On the bright side, Seattle is a decent place to live and there are many interesting and beautiful areas close by.

I'll give you a very plausible reason whether you and others accept it is a FACT: The very concept of American Exceptionalism. You would have to be an American first off to even understand the concept, the rest of the world has been trying to grasp this concept for over a century but it escapes them. Other countries and individuals are no doubt capable and perhaps excellent in their endeavors but they fail to have the cohesiveness that is unique to an American and the American attitudes and implementation. You can scoff but no one here or any other venue can prove me wrong.

I am proud and happy to have had a family that help create this phenomenon since they arrived in 1690. We are simply a meld of foreigners that have created their own unique country and economy based upon the failures of others and the implementation of concepts that work as a unit for the benefit of the whole.
