I tried asking this question on the Nikon Z forum but still not sure. I'm used to using the pop up flash as a commander on my Nikon's. I have a number of budget Chinese guns that work really well with this. Having recently bought a Zfc with no pop up I wonder if the new Godox iT30 will be able to wirelessly control these guns. The spec states the gun has a transmitter and receiver. Basically the question is whether every manufacturer has a different command protocol and that Godox can only control other Godox guns? Sorry if it is a silly question but there isn't much info on this

Not a silly question. Godox have a proprietary radio system which will not work with other manufacturers system. Thw Godox iT30 pro can optically trigger ant device that supports optical triggering but all that does is fire the device you can't control the settings remotely.

The even smaller manual Godox iM20, 22 and 30 work on all hotshoes (center pin) and are great as optical triggers. On the receiving end you can switch them between S1 and S2, S2 ignores pre-flashes, when the main flash works in TTL. For under 40,- they are great, even I can operate off camera flash and release the shutter with an iM30.

What’s great about the Godox wireless system is that the main trigger or triggering flash has to suit the camera, e.g. a Godox Sony trigger for a Sony camera, a Godox Nikon flash for a Nikon camera, but all Godox flash units work together without problems, regardless of the brand they’re made for.

If you buy a Godox flash for your Nikon, it will not work on a Sony. But if you buy a trigger or flash for your Sony it will fire your Nikon flash including TTL or HSS.

The proprietary nature is due to the fact that every camera manufacturer does its own thing, not Godox. Godox offers as much compatibility of their gear as possible.

Thanks for clarifying this. It is hard to find this out any other way but talking here. What a great forum this is.
