Upgraded Firmware, camera won't turn on

The process ended completly, so the battery did not die. It even gave the '"success" message. The batter wasn't 100% but it was fully charged with about 100 pics on it. Like I said though, I got the "success" message so it appears as though the process completed.

I was upgrading from 1.2 to 1.3.

I will NOT be doing any firmware upgrades again unless it is a CRITICAL fix. Not worth the risk I guess :-(

Thanks,
Jeff
Jay-Comment and Question-

Comment-you may have not had an adequately charged battery The
instructions are very adament about using the AC adapter for
firmware updates.

Question-From what version to what version? If you had the earliest
version in camera, and tried to go to latest version, there may
have been an interim version necessary. Seems like when I got mine
it had v 1.1 and when I updated to 1.2 the instructions said not to
go from 1.0 to 1.2 without first updating 1.0 to 1.1.

Jeff,

If it's ANY consolation, I went through the same 1.0.3 upgrade with exactly the same result. I had about 8 months of usage, however...I had done two previous firmware upgrades and they worked just fine. The interesting thing is that Canon pulled the F/W upgrade for a while reportedly because they were trying to determine if it was causing problems (so, perhaps we're NOT alone)...

I'm convinced that there is a hardware sensitivity in this upgrade. You will likely end up, like me, with a brand new electronics control board, AND a new CMOS imager. I'm sure it's my imagination, but focus DOES seem a bit faster with my 28-135mm IS lens (To everyone else, PLEASE don't start on THAT one again! I said it was, I'm sure, just my imagination!).

The camera was in the shop for one week, and came back with new life...so at least you can look forward to using all your new stuff when it returns.
Best,
Phil
Well, i just got my D30 today and decided to upgrade the firmware.
I made sure my camera's SN was in the range and followed the
instructions. Everything went fine and got to the "Firmware
upgraded successfully" message and when I pressed Ok, the screen
went black. Nothing would respond and I had to take out the
battery. Now, nothing is working. I turn it on and get nothing.

What do i do?

Don't tell me I have to send this in to Canon after having it for 4
hours!!!!

My recollection is that the firmware file is deleted but I may be wrong. It's been several months since I updated the firmware in my D30 and the D60 may be different. Maybe someone else remembers.
But, if the procedure doesn't delete the firmware file, then i did
have the CF card in while trying to turn it on. There was no
activity of any type whatsoever.

Thanks,
Jeff
Have you tried going through the upgrade procedure again? If so,
did it try to laod the firmware and then end up with the same
problem?
