Unique Building & Lighthouse

The Pointe au Pere lighthouse and Musée de la mer near Rimouski, Quebec, Canada.

The Musée de la mer presents the history of the passenger ship Empress of Ireland from its construction, in 1906 until its sinking on the 29th of May 1914. This disaster which had 1,012 victims is the biggest Maritime disaster in Canada. The wreck lies on its starboard side in 140 ft of water. The museum was built to simulate the way the wreck lies on the bottom.

I took these two shots on a nice afternoon shortly after diving the Empress of Ireland wreck.

In he first photo I think your attention is split between the lighthouse and the building. For the second I would like to see another element in the foreground to give the photo a little more depth. Possibly the backs of a couple of smaller children to give the photo a little more depth and scale.

Thanks for the comments. I have a few of just the building that I may try working with. I felt that the historical pairing of the two buildings is so significant that I felt they should be included in the same shot and I think they balance each other as well.

The wreck is in the gulf of St. Lawrence just off Rimouski, Quebec, Canada.

The sand is about 140 ft deep and the port side railing (it lists 70 degrees to starboard) is accessible at around 85 ft. We had very unusually good conditions with bottom temperatures around 35-37 degrees F and surface temperatures around 43-45 degrees. This is the warmest it gets. Normally temperatures are in the low 30s top to bottom. Visibility, depending on day and depth ranged from a dark 10 to 25 ft horizontally. During the time we were there, the tidal swing was very small (3-5 ft) and we had little to no current, but other times it can be 15 ft or more with raging currents making it undiveable.

We were spending around 30-35 minutes on the wreck with 20-25 minutes of cold decompression.
