OK, this is the Canon SLR talk forum, not PowerShot's but I think it should be no problem it the news gets to be posted here:

There will be two new Canon PowerShot models to be unveiled in either August or September together with the eagerly-awaited pro digital EOS SLR.

These models would complement the existing Pro90 IS and G1 and will have the Direct Print mode (with CP-10 printer) built-in. They are replacing the older PowerShot S10 and S20 models, which have been officially discontinued effective June 30, 2001.

It seems that the pro digital EOS will also have the Direct Print mode as well -- such requests came from travel photographers and photojournalists since the credit-card size prints make good souvenirs/gifts to be given away to people that have been photographed for their assignments in far away locations.

How about new EF lenses?

Aarrgghhh!! This is one news that Canon is keeping me in suspense - they have no problem in revealing what's coming for cameras but won't reveal any when it comes to EF lenses although I expect to see products like an EF 15mm f/2.8 fisheye USM and the EF 50-200mm f/2.8L USM to be among them. :-)

There will also be new flatbed scanners and bubble jet printers in the pipeline so if anyone knows whether there will be any major non-camera trade shows (for PCs and consumer electronics) to be held anywhere within the next few months, these are the likely places for Canon to make the new announcements!

Will the 50-200/2.8L you expect to see also have IS? Do you expect that we'll see these announcements at the same time we see the others?

Thanks,

Basically I am not sure whether this lens will have IS or not at all. Anyway, i expect Canon to have this zoom lens to be in the pipeline. If it doesn't, other EF-L zooms having focal lengths like 24-105mm f/2.8L USM or 28-105mm f/2.8L USM can be the surprises of the year instead if they exist.

Kai Pin.. What is your source of information? It seems like there have been posts suggesting all types of announcements that have turned out just to be rumors. mark

can we have a 24-105 f4L IS? "small", reasonably fast, ligher than a f2.8

50-200MM L? That's a weird range.... so it would only make sense to
make a 17-50mm L. Now that would be nice!

Treat them as rumors if you like. I am not sure what types of new EF lenses will be announced by Canon in conjunction with the new PowerShot models and the pro digital EOS SLR. :-)

The PowerShot models are of course confirmed, only I don't know the full specs other than one of them (PowerShot) is a 3.34mpixel version. The other may be a 2.5mpixel rahter than 2.1. Both will have the Direct Print mode that is compatible with the CP-10 printer. :-)

As for the pro digital EOS, Canon needs to announce it (by the big brass)by this year otherwise they will continue to see shrinking array of white lenses in action at major sporting events where users have found the Nikon D1H and D1X to have greater advantages than the DCS 520/EOS D2000 and EOS D30.

Those shooters may not necessary own the Nikons (they could be Canon EOS users) who have no problems getting the pro equipment on loan from Nikon for such occasions. Both Canon and Nikon have their very own tech support centers at such events.

Anyone notice the number of D1x's at the Tennis this year????

Canon had BETTER announce soon because we are basicaly a Canon shop but even now we own 2 D1x bodies because we simply cannot wait for Canon to deliver Camera's or its us that will lose market share.

Kai,

In a previous posting you said that Canon were testing four different cameras. Have they completed their testing? Can you give us any specs on the camera to be announced?

Good shooting!

Whether Canon has completed tests on the four prototypes, only they will know. Full specs are not released yet other than the minor ones in my previous posting -- no confirmation yet on which one of them will be the final choice for global marketing. :-)

I agree...and lets hope that August will change everything. Cause people are switching and they can t afford to wait. I just had to replace one of my eos bodies and it sucked to buy another film body cause I need good af in low lite with sports.
