Tripper, Nixvue, Image Tank, ???

Russ,

I have decided to go with the Nixvue Vista. It has more of the features that I need (want) than any of the other alternatives. The Firewire interface (accessory) was attractive and, coupled with other features and feedback from users, convinced me. I just ordered from B&H.

Joe
Thank you all for you comments and suggestions. I will now have to
make the decision and spend the cash. I think I've narrowed my
search to the Tripper and the Nixvue Vista.

Dennis;

It's now Thursday afternoon so you may already be on your way out here, but the Russian Submarine is on perminate display or until the number of visitors goes down. It's on the Seattle waterfront next to pier 48, I think? And while your here if there is a "clear" night, you definately want to go up to Kerry Park for night shots of the Space Needle and the waterfront. If you've ever seen pictures of Seattle, this is where they took the pictures. "STUNNING VIEWS FROM THERE!"

I'm quite "green" when it comes to computers and I almost made a mistake because of my lack of computer knowledge. I was going to order the Nixvue Vista with the Firewire adapter but I bought my computer back in October of 2001. So unless I was to upgrade to a newer board I'm going to have to stick with the USB1........right?

Fred.

You can install an inexpensive firewire card if your board has an open slot.

With the apparent demise of Minds at Work and the Mindstor, I am
looking for the "next best thing". I have read various posts on
the alternative image portable mass storage devices and am
confused. I need (or want):
  • NEF compatibility
  • CF II (Microdrive) compatibility
  • Firewire interface
  • 20-30GB of storage
  • reasonably long battery life
  • true portability (not a second PC)
Any suggestions?

After comparing my options, I just ordered a 20MB Tripper. It was
between that and the Digibin, but I liked the idea of having USB
2.0 downloads.
Just got my Tripper. Looks great, feels reasonably solid. Charged up in under 2 hours (manual says it takes two hours) and seems blazing fast loading to/from the compact flash cards. Works with USB 1.1 and 2.0 (so I can use it on my laptop too). So far, great! It came with a nice fake-leather protective case (that includes a belt clip).

Interesting note, the box and manual are totally anonymous, so no idea who made it, lol. Very very "asian" in that way.

Anyway I'm not good at English, so you may have some trouble in reading...Sorry!

Russ,

Yes, I did buy the FireWire adapter for the Nixvue. I didn't get any other accessories because it comes with a case and cables. The other available adapter is a parallel printing adapter which allows printing directly from the Nixvue. Since I don't intend to use it in that mode, I didn't get that accessory. The whole thing is pricey but from early indications (I got it yesterday) it's significantly better than the MindStor.

Fred:

I did not make it to Kerry Park. Our meeting schedule just did not allow and the fact I had no transportation! I did get a private tour of Seahawks Stadium!

The big event for me was the Anti-War march from Seattle Center down 5th past West Lake Center and down to Chinatown.

I planted myself near the Monorail sign on street level and snapped away. I had to go find one of the shots and put it up here. I just got off a plane and I am going to bed.

Seattle was a great place. Unfortnately, the clouds and rain moved back in on Thursday and I never really got a chance to get some good shots.

I did visit Glazers and Dion was a great guy to work with. I actually found some 2200P ink which he is shipping back to me.

More later.

Hi Dennis;

I'm sorry that you didn't have the opportunity to see more of the area. Just 45 minutes up I-90 is Snoqualmie Falls and across the Spokane Street Bridge to the west are a couple of parks that overlook Elliott Bay (looking back north towards the Space Needle). If you make it back out here, drop me an e-mail and I'll give you better directions.

Fred.

Hi Russ;

Boy I'm not any help with that area at all. I know that somewhere on the Washington side of the river is a duplicate of Stone Hendge that looks right over the river, but that's about all I know of that area. I've read threads of people in the Oregon area on this site. You might post that question and see what you get back.

Good luck!

If you have a car, drive the scenic columbia Rvr highway (accessible off of I84 E of Ptld, at Sandy River exit?). Will take you along the Sandy R, then up to Crown point, and then down along the Columbia R. Oneonta Gorge is a beautiful little mini-gorge, then Multnomah falls ( 600 ft), horsetail fall, bridal veil falls, and lots of other scenic stops. One of the most beautiful drives in the country. Eagle creek (just E of Bonneville dam, W of cascade locks; 45 min from Ptld) is a beautiful walk... pretty easy trail, with a couple of nice waterfalls in the first 2 miles. Was one of my favorite hikes, when I was growing up. Hope you enjoy it! DLG

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm looking forward to the visit right after Memorial Day weekend. By then I will have my new camera and some sort of storage device.
