Triggering multiple Nikon Zs at once

Hello all,

I do live dance photography. Own a Nikon Z8, Z7ii, and a couple D750s. I want to freeze a live dance pose from multiple angles. Thus far I have been using a Godox trigger and multiple receivers connected to my cameras to fire all at once. However, this is a bit cumbersome to manage as I am manning one camera full-time while having to press the Godox trigger separately to fire the other cameras (I don't have an assistant yet).

I am wondering if there is a way to press the shutter release on a 'main' camera (the one that I am manning), and simultaneously trigger the other cameras. Then I will have to focus just on one camera and not worry about the others as they are automatically getting triggered each time I press my main camera shutter release.

Has anyone figured this one out?

I know the Nikon site has a cable MC 23/A https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/eu/BV_article?articleNo=000046677&configured=1&lang=en_GB that can connect 2 Nikon cameras and so both can be triggered at once. There is no wireless option though.

Thanks!
Maddy

I've never tried this but the manual shows this diagram. Is it what you are looking for?

I have set the function button on the WR-T10 to be AF-ON so I press that first and then trigger the camera.

I used the wr-10 etc, I Theatre for years, works great!

Your last statement is interesting. I want to use the 'shutter release' on the main camera which should trigger all the other cameras. I don't want to use the button on the WRT10 to trigger the other cameras. Does this make sense?

I am manning the main camera and continuously clicking on it (I shoot about 1000-2000 pictures over a 3-hour dance performance). I can't simultaneously also press the button on the WR10 which will cause me to lose important moments of the dance (I'll have to manage two things simultaneously which is pain).

So, ideally, if I can connect 'something' - like a WRT10 to my main camera - so when I press shutter release on my main *camera*, I want all the other cameras to trigger as well.

If I have to use the button on WRT10 to trigger the other cameras, then Godox also does this already (which I currently do).

Ah yes! This might be it. I'll dig deeper, might be exactly what I have been looking for. Thanks.

I also found this: https://onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/z9/en/synchronized_release_71.html

I am assuming this will work for Z8 and Z7ii. Will try and let you know
You may be on to something here. I did a quick search of Thom Hogan's book on the Z8, but found only two short (very short) references to "Synchronized Release" - no details of how to set it up or how it works. I can't say much beyond that as I only have one Z8, but the link you provided does sound like it might be what you want.

Good luck, happy shooting,
Peter

WR-R11a/b will do this, at least on the Z9 bodies. I do it regularly.

It can "be used on a designated master camera to trigger up to 64 transceiver units."

You can't sync flash reliably, but if you're using continuous light - no problem.

Topic is pretty simple, the WR- accessories do exactly what you want. Press the shutter on the camera in your hand and all your other cameras fire simultaneously.

I used to do this as far back as using my D4 and D800E, works as advertised, and it works well! I don't believe ANY cameras since that time, such as the Z7 are an exception, they all work as far as I know.

I find it advantageous before the session to synchronize the time on all your cameras so that when sorting culling after the shoot, you can arrange images in time order, so that regardless of which camera a photo originated from, they are arranged in time sequence together.

Clarification: It is the "A" and "R" 10/11 devices that do this. The "T" device is a remote release and is not necessary (nor helpful for your needs).

Steve,

Good to know - thanks. I have a D850 and a Z8, so if I pick up a second WR-R11a I can sync up the two cameras and have one camera cause the shutter to trip on both at the same time. Wow. Learned something new today.

Easy. Put your Godox trigger on your main camera, and when you fire it, the Godox receivers will fire the other cameras.

This also works with Pocket Wizards.

I'm not sure if putting the Godox trigger on the main camera will trigger other cameras. Actually is not documented here: https://www.godox.com/product-d/X1N.html. Am I missing something?
