I first noticed this a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't like the shot I got: wrong angle, mid-day light was yucky, etc. So, last Saturday morning at 7:30 I rode light rail to downtown Portland to try again. Hope you like it.

Canon G2, 1/250 sec, f/6.3. I used the built-in flash to fill in the torso a little.

Almost surreal! Very interesting. Thanks.

Good eye Adrienne - I like the juxtaposition of the torso against the building's "head". Excellent decision on the fill flash.

Hi adrienne,

Yes I most certainly like it.

Nice composition and not only by fillin the frame nice, but also the tention between the rounded and the square shapes.

when you ve got something in mind .......you cannot stop thinking about it aren't you..The only thing I can say is that it was worth going back and take this very nice shot .The difference in the contrast between the building and torse and also the good framing........so I like this one ......that all!:)

thierry.........:):)

You persisted until you loved it...and it paid off, Adrienne! Wonderful photo.....sky color, building color, contrast of the torso.......nice job!!

Excellent photo, nice color, focus and contrast between modern bld and old torso??, dress makers model??? DL

Thanks, Hugh! I thought it was a bit surreal -- I'm glad you thought so, too.
It was fun finding the right way to capture my feelings about it.

Thanks, Greg. You made a good comment about the building's "head." I hadn't thought about it in those words -- I just knew I wanted the top of the building in the shot. Very well put.

thierry,

Thanks for looking at my shot and for such a nice comment. You're right: I just couldn't stop wondering how to get a good shot of it, and I just had to try again.

Thanks again,

adrienne

Marilu,

How kind you are! I know you understand persistence -- I've seen it in your work, and it has certainly paid off for you.

I'm glad you liked the shot.

adrienne,

The shape and texture of the clouds, the particular blue shade of sky, the floating element of surrealism...

You wouldn't be channeling Rene Magritte, would you?

My very best regards,

Ed

Thanks, DL.

I think the torso might be made from a dress-maker's model, but I really don't know. Its function now is as a sign for a boutique.
