Hi,

I took some photos with using the microdrive.
After downloading to the pc, I put the microdrive
back in the S1 and selected FORMAT instead of Erase.

I had the hour glass symbol flipping up and down.
It kept doing so for minutes. I was getting quite
worried. I tried FORMAT before and it was usually
less than 20secs.

I tried turning off the Power switch and the S1
continued to stay on. Not know if it would continue
till the batteries drain, I open the media Slot cover.
I got an ERR message but was able to turn off/on
and take pictures again.

Have not gone back to FORMAT. Any idea of the
time it takes to format with the S1?

Is this normal?

Thanks...

Seems you are making me nervous to (send the message already by accident without editing), as you send it alo two times ;-).

Unfortunately I only do have experiance by CF-cards. CF format is done in 1-2 seconds).

Seems, at least the camera will end its job. Maybe you should wait some longer.

That is normal when you open the media slot and camera is powerd on.
Have not gone back to FORMAT.
I still should test it by several test-images, the camera powered by the AC power supply and make several FORMAT tests. This is the only way to figure out if it just was a long format by accident. or that the microdrive is not functioning well. You still have warrenty to the microdrive, as well to the camera. So better to convince yourself the devices are in optimum state, than not trying and not knowing what is happening. If the errors stay, you have to change the microdrive by warrenty or repair your camera. (But I think it has to do with the microdrive).
