thread viewing

This is obviously a matter of personal taste, but I for one find Phil's format much easier to follow than the cookie cutter bbs format you reference. I can never tell who is saying what to whom in those things. They're fine for stream-of-conciousness stuff, but not for seeing the relationship between the various posts. They seem more like a bulletin board with everybody just sticking up whatever they have to say. This site seems more like a series of conversations.
Forget the topic, just look at the format.

This is dumb, I know...but is there a way to have a thread and
replies "open" instead of having to click on a link for every
response? It just makes for easier reading. I poked around for
optional viewing and found none.

Yup, its pretty dumb. The forum I mean ;) Take a look at the Neowin forums (www.neowin.com) they are pretty well organised.

Also, I think, seeing as this is a photography forum, that each thread link could have an icon showing if photos are attached!
