Earlier today I found out this steps to get shutter count for E-PL1, which also works for E-P1 and E-P2.
I just got home and try this to my E-5, AND IT DOES WORK TOO!!

Here are the steps:

► Camera OFF
► Hold down MENU button and turn ON the camera
► Release MENU button and press MENU again to get to Menus
► Go to LCD Brightness Menu, that's in Spanner Menu and third item down.
► Press RIGHT to show screen adjusters
► Press INFO and then press OK and on my E-5 this shows on screen....
OLYMPUS E-5 0A 01 01 01
► Press in sequence UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT/SHUTTER/UP and Page 1 info appears

► Variously press RIGHT for Page 2, DOWN for Page 3, LEFT for Page 4 and UP again to get Page 1

What we are looking for is the information on Page 2, on my E-PL1 it shows.....
R 000275 [total shutter actuation count]
S 000020 [shot count with flash]
C 000000
U 000106 [turn on count which is ultrasonic wave cleaner count]
V 000000

B 000204 [seems to be total number of times shutter button is fully pressed for any reason]
L 000000

On Page 4 is D: damage code log, mine shows 0 and that is good.

Without hate or fear be everything you've dreamed of being.

Olympus E-5 partnered with a Zuiko 9-18 f/4.0 - 5.6, 14-54 f/2.8 - 3.5 mark I, 50-200 f/2.8 - 3.5 & the 70-300 f/4.0 - 5.6 lenses and 2x teleconverter and a FL-36 flash.

When you get to LCD brightness adjustment, make sure the highlighted item is the screen adjusters (the one on the right side)
Then press info followed by OK

I've tried this 3 times, it works everytime

Have you tried this one:

I've tried the steps from biofos on my E-620, and it worked. I heard those steps are good for all previous E-System cameras (before PEN and E-5)
Cheers

No kidding, I was wondering about that too - does someone just poke randomly at all the buttons until hits right combination? Nah, that would take as much time as for proverbial monkeys to type World and Peace... must be leak from inside of Olympus

Hahaha, I agree with you ;)

Four Thousand Five Hundred and change in less than a month (and that time period includes a week at Christmas when I used only the PENs, and a week in Jamaica with the PENs as well)

Time to start using the backup E30 more :)

Extremely cool - anyone with an idea what page 2 and 3 are about :-)

This post from E_B back in 2008 rounded up the meaning of most of the E-3 codes, I guess many are the same for the E-5:

Good to know how to get in there on the E-5. I suspect a leak, or an infinite number of monkeys : )

Thanks a bunch. I checked my E-1 (purchased April 2005) and E-5 (purchased Nov. 23, 2010) and here are a few of my stats:

E-1:
R = 56,790 (shutter activations)
S = 10,362 (w/ flash) = 18% of R
U = 6,473 (power-ups = 8.77 shots per power-up)

E-5:
R = 2,595
S = 1,025 = 39% of R
U = 731 = 3.55 shots per power-up

My E-5 stats show heavier use of flash and lower number of shots per power-up compared to the E-1 because of the holidays, several Wednesday evenings at our church's youth program, and no traveling/vacations except one day trip to Yosemite. Over time, I expect the E-5 stats will trend toward the current E-1 stats. However, now that my E-1 is primarily my site visit/construction camera (I'm a civil engineer), the E-1's percentage of flash shots will decline.
