Thinking of switching systems again - maybe 4/3 sytem, some questions

I have switched over completely to Olympus E-M1. My go to lens is the 12-40mm. This is the best lens I've ever owned. Super sharp, weather proof, just enough wide angle, and great doing macro work.

I can't see how you'd be restricted with your prints. I've got great shots hanging in my office off a 4MP camera.

The problem with the A6000 is the great price but not so great or terribly expensive lenses for it.

The M43 system is perfect for traveling--especially is dust and weather proof, and really can nail just about anything if you get a good selection of lenses. I pretty much am a 24-70ish guy so the 12-40mm hardly ever comes off. One prime (25mm) covers the low light portrait stuff, or again, the 12-40mm 2.8.

I've found and it has been documented in this forum that many M43 users come out of the film and DSLR world with significant experience and credentials. The majority are perfectly happy, as I am, with M43, and the near endless assortment of lenses available.

It is the lens selection that really appeals to me about the 4/3 system. And I think I could be very happy with the 12-40. I really want to do more movies so I may either wait for the OM1 upgrade or spring for the M52 that was just reviewed. I had thought about the Pany GH4 with the 14-140 lens but the more I think about the more I know I would miss the wider 24mm (35mm equiv.). Even thought it is big the 40-140 2.8 is very appealing to me and until I can justify it my understanding is the slower 40-140 does a nice job and is dirt cheap.

I am going to wait another year though. I do have a feeling an upgraded OM1 could be the perfect camera for me. If I wanted the 12-60 lens it would be a great option. I am really thinking hard about the 12-40, I give up a little range on the long end but gain some speed and would not feel any need to get primes for that range. The speed could come in handy for filming in low light. I am guessing the upgraded OM1 would be in the $1700 range, would have vastly improved filming capability, and I hope a little bump in resolution and maybe even have that high resolution option. Since what I have is perfectly fine for now it may be worth the wait and I think there may be an upgrade by next spring, that would be 2 1/2 years from the OM1, but I have no clue what the upgrade cycle is for Olympus.

PS: After revisiting Oly lenses available I am really impressed with the choices. There are some great older non micro lenses which is making me think it would be wise to wait for upgraded M1, providing the upgraded model is still committed to support the non micro lenses. I also like the fact that the cameras have Is which in the long run saves us money when buying lenses.

I was thinking about Olympus lenses and camera's primarily. Of course if you go with a Panasonic body there are lenses that you're better off with like the 42.5 because its image stabilised. You can use the 42.5 on an Olympus body, but its very expensive and there is already a great Olympus 45mm F/1.8 option. By F/1.8 you already don't have enough depth of field, F/1.2 is nice, but I'm not sure if half a stop actually sells it over the Olympus 45mm I'm willing to be wrong.

A 135mm portrait lens tends to be more flattering then a portrait taken at 90mm which accentuates facial features. I tend to think if you want to see all the lumps and bumps then sure shoot at 90 but the 135mm portrait is far more flattering to your subject.
And what's wrong with the Oly 60/2.8? (120 equivalent) Not fast enough perhaps? So you want a 67.5/1.4?

Every time I find someone afraid of doing big prints with m43, I link this video ;-)

Check it out
Yeah, a seminar by Ira at B&H is what started me on the road to switching from FF to m43. No regrets.

It is not a concern of mine anymore after seeing the video and reading many posts in this thread,

Here are some idle shots from the 12-40mm to show you macro capabilities...

And at night...lots more on my web site for past year or so...but a few in there with 25mm.

Like your shots and liked your website. You may want to check out the support page on my website because it will give you an idea of what I want to do.

And I want you to know my wife and I fell in love with the Florida Gulf area, mainly the panhandle. We had a great vacation in Panama City Beach and Destin and now we plan on going there every year if we can. I am trying to talk my wife into buying some property on the gulf coast.
