Success on update a77mk2 firmware v2.0(Problem : This memory card does not support XAVC s codec!)

probably you need a SD Card with at least 50 Mbps.

Details abut the XAVC S codec for A77I is still unclear, but it's probably the same as the new A7II (which uses the 50 Mbps XAVC S codec). In case you would need a faster SD card that can keep up 50 Mbps video stream.

BTW, this XAVC S codec will improve the video quality of A77II dramatically.
Well, when I try to shoot video with my firmware updated RX10 in the XAVS-S mode I simply get an error message when a SanDisk Extreme 95MB/s SDHC is in the slot. It needs to be SDXC. Not sure whether it's only sustained writing speed to the card which matters or if SDXC differs from SDHC also in other aspects.

Next point for testing of those cards would be whether clearing of the buffer speeds up and/or if increased performance allows for more pictures been taken in a burst until buffer fills.

Update anyway, this update is more than just the codec........
Others no longer work, right?

Others will keep working perfectly as long as you don't choose the new codec in the menu......
I have a Transcend 64GB SDXC card that used on my fz1000, but I don't want to format this card to put on my a77mk2 to test it. Who knows , a77mk2 did supported XAVC codec recording... so I guess I have to wait another few days to get delivered. yes, if you're not ready or don't have the card yet, don't update until you got the card .

I doubt a77mk2 has already 4k recording option available, it's just sony has SEALED this feature like XAVC before. crossing my finger hopefully Sony to update next version of firmware to support 4K video.

FWIW here's one of the least expensive and fastest SDXC Class 10 UHS-1 cards on the market, the Samsung 64GB PRO, $40 at Amazon right now (90 MB/s read, 80 MB/s write). They certainly beat the Sandisk cards at that price point. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IVPU6BY

No,no, false info....

it's perfectly allright to update, the only thing you can't do is record à movie with the new codec

if you choose the new codec it states that you have the wrong card, but recording in avchd and everthing else works as before inclusief the faster AF

The old card should work with everything but the new video codec. -- Tom Look at the picture, not the pixels ------------ Misuse of the ability to do 100% pixel peeping is the bane of digital photography.

Only if you plan on using the higher bit rate video codec. For everything else the old card should be fine.

You 're confusing everyone with your incorrect info

The Transcend SDXC I 64Gb (R95/W60) works perfectly with the new video mode. These cards are pretty cheap on eBay.

Thanx for this info, i ordered the same one ( € 30 here in the Netherlands), should arrive tomorrow.

Glad to hear it will work...

That card was $27.00 the day before Thanksgiving, should have gotten two cards at that price.
