how exactly does it work? They say it's easy to upload 100s of photos with a couple of clicks... do you just upload a zip of the photos or is there a utility for windows or mac os that allows you to upload loads of files quickly?

Thanks

Dan

With my Windows PC it works just like a file browser. Select the files you wish to upload and click upload and it is done. I believe it is a little different for a Mac but can't say for sure.

here are the steps:

1. after you create a new gallery, you click on "add photo"
2. you'll then get a menu of choices:

Windows Drag & Drop - For Internet Explorer on Windows.

here, you drag from explorer into the upload box. you can also click on an entire folder of photos at one time, and upload the entire folder. the files may not be zipped.

Mac OS X - Sweet Aqua application. Upload iPhoto albums and more.
i'm not a mac user, but i know folks who are quite happy with this

Mac OS 9 & OS X - Java-based batch uploading for Macs.

  • Other platforms - Java-based batch uploading for almost anything except Mac.
  • Standard - All browsers. The most compatible way of uploading photos, but lacking automation.
this one is one-at-a-time, and is the fallback if for some reason your special browser won't work with the others.

if you need more help or info, you could email [email protected] or check out the smugmug support forum at http://www.dgrin.com

hope this helps :)

sounds great! I love integration with os x apps :P I guess I'll have to get myself an account when I go back to school (connection is useless here at home)

anyone have a referral number or something so we can both benefit? :P

Thanks

I love the drag and drop method. I put my finished favorites in a folder on my desktop, then drag them 10 at a time into the upload box. fast and easy. yeah would be thrilled if you put in LAhvznk6mdLU2

I was actually about to sign up for Smugmug myself. What does the referral code do? What does each side get?

Daniel, tell me whose code you used and I'll use the other one :)

Could I ask what size the photos need to be? When I transfer my images from my 717 to my PC and open them in Photoshop they display on the monitor at about 7"x5" but thats only 25%. Do they need resizing before uploading?

George, they dont need any resizing. Just load them at the size you have (or have processed them to be) and smugmug will automatically create Small, Medium, Large links to your photos besides the original. You can choose to either let your original sized photo be viewable or not to the viewer. Of course, if you are logged into your smugmug account you can always view the originals.

here is mine, anyone can use it once and multiple people can use the same code.

The code is a five dollar off coupon for the new site-ee and ten dollars to the person offering the code.

but there is a total file size limit per drag and drop session. I thought it was quite large. Something like 150 meg or so, if I am remembering correctly.

I did some charity shooting and loaded the full size 2056x1920 so everyone would have access to the original pics if they wanted 20" prints or to download and save for themselves. 500+ in that category, I got them all loaded after a few sessions.

It is realy a great site and "real" people even helped a customer of mine when their photos size option choices for printing were not going to print that well.
